Staring at the night sky above the cliffs,
The stars like tears above the flames.

As the fires fall and burn the grass,
I stare at my home, watching, helpless.
A song of sorrow flows through the air,
Between the sounds of hail and thunder.

Staring at the ground beneath my feet,
The valleys like sullen creases on a tired face.

Between the sadness my house burns,
Like a friend watching from far off.
The sky and the ground swallow up
All history and time not able to look back.

hmmm new eva series ... do you mean the Dirrectors cut? it's nmot really new, it's the same thing just with some of the deleted scenes put back into it. However i do belive that their timing couldn't have been better ... i find out about it 2 days after i buy the perfect collection ...

Eva got the ball rolling. Sure, previous mecha/vehicle anime had limited introspective, questioning moments, but nowadays, it just seems to be the order of the day. Characters don't just question what they're fighting for, but also themselves, the world, the universe, whatever the writers think are "deep" topics to go on about.

My guess is that the studios saw what a big hit Eva was, both in fan numbers AND IN MERCHANDISING. So they've decided to try that formula, but it's become played out, and they don't realize it.

They're making art, but they aren't making entertainment.

Look at Azumanga Daioh. No CG, not the sharpest looking characters, and no "deep moments". Yet it mopped up last year, because it's a witty series, and more importantly, it's a FUN series.

Hopefully we'll get more good stuff like it.

actuall what got the ball rolling on the robot stuff was gundam. they started that kind of anime back in the 80's way before eva. man i want a baked potatoe. but hey anime is being more the same ever series. so i can't really say who did start that. my gripe although it may seem it is not with the big robots or ditzy chicks etc. its really who there is less creativity in the naimes now adays and character development. now adays you can see the first ep. and get the rest of the anime or not feel really any loss at not seeing the rest. like mahoromatic. ya i own it and all but really. there isn't anything that really keeps you watching it at all. you can tell from the start what its all about right? and im getting the same feel from onigai teacher (i haven't seen the whole thing so im gonna stop talking about that). like even a simple plot like nedesico made yopu watch cause whats gonna happen to the martians? right? but a show like maho what is there to keep you? the only thing is that she is gonna stop functioning. You ever see neo ranga? its got kinda a simple plot at first but it gives ya the feel of something bigger. what is the stuff im talking about. creativity, character development and something like a good plot that makes you want to keep watching/

I know Gundam helped jumpstart the robot series. What I meant was that Evangelion could be considered responsible for this recent spate of series that try to be deep and action shows at the same time. Or just try to be deep.

Basically, I guess it boils down to the writers and developers taking the cheap way out and just writing a story sequence, with "artistic" dialogue and cheap characters.

Look at Trigun or Cowboy Bebop. They start out unrelated, then through the course of the series, a common, linked theme gets established, the episodes still have some independence, and by the end it ties up into a conclusion. I know I wanted to keep watching, and I did.

Like deus751 said, it just seems too easy nowadays to see the way the series will progress, after watching the first or second episode.

yes yes

hey thanks. some one agrees. but about that link between trigun and cowboy bebop. i noticed that as well. its kinda odd. i realte to them as if they were the same series. its kinda cool. even though trigun has a moral dellema as its plot and bebop doesn't i dunno maybe cause they have the same loose feel to it. hehe because of that comment i am now watching bebop thanks!

There are a ton of AMV's comparing the 2. The ones that I've seen are good....
Why do you hurt me like this? Is it because I dared to love, dared to dream? I loved you and you left on me just because of one simple word. Can't you see? You ruined your life and mine. Don't come back. You dared to leave and I dared to stay.

i like the ones that are for bebop like the only in dreans done by only in toast pro. but i really haven't found any trigun ones that i like. mostly people just come up with funny songs and make vash sing to the words. i hate when they do that. but oh well.
