Aside from the cliche lines, my main problem with the banners is that a *lot* of them all look alike. They all look like they were made the same way. There's nothing artistic or creative about the pictures - it's the 'catchy phrase.' Heck, as silly as it looks, one of the most 'artistic' banners is the one of the round-headed stick figure done in black and white - just because it's different from the other banners that have a cut out character plus tagline or a few scenes faded together. If amv creators are making them - especially the ones who make banners about Premiere - then why aren't there any 'effect' banners - things that change the original anime scenes before tossing them onto a plain (or slightly faded) background with a catchy phrase?
Most of the banners I've seen are very pretty - pretty girls, a few pretty guys, and even the ugly ones (purposely done that way) are pretty with nice clean (aka plain) backgrounds and nothing to distract from the text. But considering it's a community about 'making' things with anime...I don't know - I expected to find more artistic banners up there. And I don't consider putting a colorfully pretty pic up as 'artistic' - that's copy and paste and a little layering in photoshop.

Yeah, but that version didn't get accepted so the person resubmitted with a different catch phrase. I watched them both go through the voting - it may not have been the same *person* but it was definitely the exact same banner - just a different 'phrase.'Bryal wrote:wasnt that banner saying move the stars to the music or something like that?

Holy hell. That was my favorite banner in a long, long time. 8)Beowulf wrote:
What annoys me with these is that one banner will come up with a cute little catchphrase, and then 18 other banners after that will beat it into the ground. Things like "Beware of [random thing]" or boring plays on error messages. Eh, I don't make them myself so maybe I shouldn't talk, but few people have any originality with them.
That, and people need to learn how to resize without stretching things all out of whack. You get stuff that is twice as wide as it should be because they didn't keep the proportions right. Even I know how to do that. -_-;

Here is mine. I doubt you'll like it. It was my first attempt at image editing... I've come along ways since then.
Why the fuck didn't that make it.

This is one of mine that didn't make it, much to Koop's dismay...

The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

My third banner attempt and the second one to be rejected. But it's pretty easy to see why it was rejected... Looking back on it, I probably would have voted it unworthy as well.
This one however...
I don't care what anyone thinks...as far as banners go, this one is my baby.
And I kinda agree about the inspirational messages. Some work (and they get the votes) but sometimes they don't even make that much sense.
