I always wondered how livestreaming a contest works. Does twitch cover you for broadcast rights or are you just leaving the con liable when the RIAA comes a-knocking?

I forgot some of the details about how much it costs us, but MomoCon pays a fee to have the rights to play music at the event. So that is what covers the karaoke and AMV departments. And then, MomoCon entered into a partnership with Twitch about 2 years ago in order to be able to stream all of our events (even the ones that aren't video game related).

And speaking of that, there were some pretty awesome events and panels streamed outside of the AMV Contest. You should totally check out the following:

*Star Wars Script reading w Steve Blum, Cree Summer, Jim Cummings & Mary Elizabeth McGlynn

*LittleKuriboh Unabridged

*Craftsmanship Costume Contest

*The World of Steven Universe

*Crunchyroll Simulacast Preview Panel

So pretty much everything that happened in MomoCon's Main event rooms can be watched on one of these 4 channels:

Yea, ASCAP licensing fees cover playing music at the venue - Every US con should be paying them. Once you stream an event, though, you're technically "broadcasting" and the fees for that are degrees of magnitude higher (and I think they're negotiated by someone other than ASCAP).

Do you know how many votes were collected for the category? I'm curious as to how close it actually was.
