Re: Nekocon 2009 Submission deadline October 1 2009
You have until THURSDAY to request your FTP or get your mail-in submissions postmarked!
We will accept NO NEW SUBMISSIONS after that.
In other words, if you don't request your FTP permission by 12:01am October 2, you're outta luck. Otherwise, you have until the 6th to upload.

If you are trying to submit an entry using TransferBigFiles.com, please refer back to our rules. We only except videos, via postal service or our FTP server. ftp.nekocon.com.
f you choose to send us your submission via FTP, please email amv@nekocon.com with your submission information. You will then be given a unique username and password as well as any necessary login information to upload you video. These accounts will be disabled within 2 weeks of creation. If you need more time to upload your videos, please email amv@nekocon.com. It's also considered a good idea to mail in a back up copy as well but is not necessary.
Submission Information
* Your name (this will appear on the voting ballot; please do not submit your studio name and/or a handle/nickname)
* Your address
* Your E-mail address (this is critical if we need to contact you for anything)
* Name of the source video (if multiple sources were used, say "VARIOUS")
* Name of the soundtrack

Re: Nekocon 2009 Submission deadline October 1 2009
"For whom does the bell toll? It tolls for thee."
Time's up, y'all!
If you got your FTP request in before 12:01am this morning, you'll have until October 6 to have your video on our server. Otherwise, there's always next year.
Now it's time to go through the final batch of requests and get the upload info out.
After that, the final general staff "OMG!" meeting, the finalist screening, and the magical posting of those who made the ballot for NekoCon 12. We'll get to that last part as soon as the scores are counted. Remember: five main categories, six entries each, a winner and runner-up in every category plus the Viewers Choice award. Don't miss the AMV Award Show on Saturday evening (time TBA) where we'll show the runners-up and winners for the contest, and hopefully you will be present to accept your TROPHY and gift card in front of your adoring fans!
Hey T-Mac...do we have an approximate number of total entries? Also, do we know if there are more entries than finalist slots for each category?
Until the finalists are posted, please remain calm and best of luck to you all...

When did this contest get so popular? It must be the giftcards trophies.
I got my FTP info and now I just need to...make the video upload.

That could be. It may also have something to do with having a contest thread on the 'org for once. There hadn't been one promoting the contest as long as I can remember so I suggested NekoCon do it this year to ensure more people would hear about it and respond.gotenks794 wrote:When did this contest get so popular? I guess it worked.

Re: Nekocon 2009 Submission deadline October 1 2009
Here's a general update on the contest status.
Due to two of the five categories being light on entries this year, Upbeat and Comedy will be consolidated into one. Furthermore, the number of finalists for Drama, Romance, and Action (the most competitive category this year) has been increased to 7. We're trying to level the playing field while also making the contest as competitive as possible. Another reason for this move is to save about $100 on trophies and invest that money in bigger prizes in addition to the trophies.
This wouldn't be an isolated scenario, though. I've been looking at the ballots for conventions this year and noticing that, oddly enough, editors have been trending away from Comedy and Upbeat (further evidenced by a Trailer winning Best Upbeat at Katsucon in February). Strange but true. I think the same thing happened with Romance for a while so maybe it is just a trend?
Anyway, no one should get the impression anyone is getting into the finalist pool "by default" in light of this development. We still have a scoring system to adhere to when screening these things. We're also determined to never have a lame contest. One thing's for sure, though: next year, the promotion machine behind this contest will redouble its efforts to make sure as many people as possible know about it and bring more competition to NekoCon.
I've probably rambled on enough. Stay tuned for further updates...

Far from isolated: I think you'll find that conventions have the most trouble getting enough entries for Comedy and Upbeat pretty much every year.deuceloosely wrote:This wouldn't be an isolated scenario, though. To give you an idea of how long this has been the case, I think Absolute Destiny was complaining about the lack of comedies rather loudly some years back when he was still active...
