Looking over all the bids so far on how many submissions were sent for consideration this year...

** BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ **

You have all overbid! The lowest bid is 99. Erase the bids, please, and go lower than 99.

I knew the entries were a lot lower than previous years, but I haven't seen it this low in a while.

The actual number .... will be released soon.
Yea, but even that 99 guess would be lower than you've seen it in a while, wouldn't it?

The more relevant question is what type of submissions dropped off. If you lost a bunch of myfirstvid.wmv entries, the prescreening would have been pleasent, but that doesn't do anything for anyone's chances.

Personally, I wonder if the drop could also be due to creators not being able to finish their Otakon video in time for the deadline (especially when you consider Otakon's "anti-trolling" rule possibly leading to the creator needing to make a fresh video for this con).

Bashar: There seemed to be a drop off in action, upbeat, and comedy videos this year. Especially action. I usually see a lot of Action videos every year. We did have a handul of "undecided" videos which bumped up the numbers a bit, and we had some recategorizing certain videos. Quality seemed to improve with most of the entries across the board, so the battle to make the cut could be fierce.

TnAdct1: With Otakon being slightly earlier than usual this year, the deadline may have been a factor, bit then again, it seems traditionally the submission deadline is early in June, usually the late Sunday of ANext. Not sure if the the initial announcement of the deadline was too late for people to whip up new or maiden entries. I only saw 2 videos that had already broken their maiden (won a contest before June 11, 2015), and only 1 video possibly DQed for visible watermarked footage.

We received 90 entries.
The earlier deadline seems to be the major contributing factor behind the drop this year. Usually the final week is very busy for the FTP server, but it sat relatively unused until Sunday morning. With the earlier deadline, my guess is a lot of people who would have made their videos after school let out, didn't have the chance to. Unfortunately I can't do much about that. Stay in school, kids.

This weekend's prescreenings/blackout party was a success. We had 18 people ready to evaluate AMVs in the dark if they had to. Finalists have been tallied and troll-checked. They'll be off to Otakorp legal tonight. Once they're cleared, they will be announced!
