Also, if you want Kyon's order, you HAVE to buy the special edition versions since it's consider extra. This means they're using.........."that" order! And not to mention, Kyon's order is subtitled only. :x

Dammit, I knew there'll be friction with episode orders and the Japanese licensor. Now I must conduct a way to swap DVDs.

Well, with the knowledge you've gained here, it shouldn't be too difficult to create your own 'custom' DVDs with whatever playback order you want. I wouldn't be surprised if someone details how to do it and what programs to use (although you'll most likely have to create new DVD menus).

But I want to clarify this item - there are 3 orders:
Kyon Order = Broadcast
Haruhi Order = Chronological
Yuki Order = JP R2 DVDs

Why a 'Yuki Order'? Because, technically, true chronological 'Haruhi Order' would have The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00 as episode 11. I'm sure most people (Bandai Ent. included) consider the DVD "chronological" order as 'Haruhi Order'. Well, since episode 11 was released by itself and interestingly enough, through the magic of 'non sequential' playback, it is possible to view it on DVD in its proper place if you play that JP R2 DVD (#0) after DVD volume #5 which contains chr. eps. 9 & 10.

BUT, since I'm a sucker and I'm going to buy the Special Editions anyways, I get my Kyon (Broadcast) Order. Plus, I want those extras (CDs, arm band, etc.)! I suppose that they'll clarify which episodes are on which DVDs. My guess (numbers in parenthesis are Broadcast Order/Chronological Order/JP R2 DVD Release Order):
  1. DVD 1
The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00 (1/11/1)
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi I (2/1/2)
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi II (3/2/3)
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi III (5/3/4)

    DVD 2
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi IV (1/4/5)
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi V (1/5/6)
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi VI (1/6/7)

    DVD 3
The Boredom of Suzumiya Haruhi (1/7/8)
    Mystérique Sign (1/8/9)
Remote Island Syndrome (Part I) (1/9/10)

    DVD 4
Remote Island Syndrome (Part II) (1/10/11)
    Live Alive (1/12/12)
    The Day of Sagittarius (1/13/13)
    Someday in the Rain (1/14/14)
Damn, my wallet is crying now. :|

BTW, is it just me, or did that 'alien spaceship' set look familiar?

Oh, and I just wanted to add some comments about the new video on http://asosbrigade.com/ (Episode 005)

1. I voted for Mikuru bunny suit. (YAY!)
2. I thought Haruhi (Patricia J. Lee) was going to 'Pink Space Ranger' that alien's butt.
3. When they started fighting the alien, it became cringe-worthy.
4. Then it became hilariously cheesy.
5. Patricia J. Lee 'Pink Space Ranger'ed that alien's butt. :P
6. The 'green room' end credit sequence was cute.

So... am I missing something or they went from ep02 to ep05?
If so, they are secretly favorizing the Kyon order. :D

Seeing that they're going to release it in "that" order, I see no real reason to buy.

Didn't those bastarts at Bang Zoom and Bandai pay attention to the polls?

Que

Seriously, what the hell?
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

They did. Welcome to the wonderful world of business negotiations!

I pretty much saw this coming especially if we consider the fact if the broadcast order were used in the regular release, you know there will be reverse importation from the Japanese side. Seems like Kadokawa doesn't want that happening.

Those bastards!

I'll probably see about getting the R1s for my anime club. If only hear the dub and see it at least once in Haruhi's order.
