Something extremely controversial... Do NOT FLAME...
After all the madness that has occured [read my journal...] 9/11 and the Columbia and what not...
This is a controversial issue brought up several times, I'm NOT looking for "proof" or arguments or "I'm right you're wrong bullshit", just one answer and a simple reason why.
My journal said it so I don't feel like posting it here but...
What are your thoughts on God?
[oh, the new show on the WB Network, "Miracles" is some REALLY heavy stuff that I find VERY intriguing...]
MUST WATCH...

What's the show about?
Me, I'm not an atheist, but neither do I subscribe to any one set of religous beliefs. I believe what I believe pretty much. To me, the idea of the lifestream from FF7, where our spirits rejoin the planet when we die, and we are reborn as other natural objects and creatures, makes the most sense. Nature is all about recycling.
But, I do not think God or anybody caused those accidents, nor do I think anyone told Bin Laden "Go Forth and Kill". I think that if there is a God, it's probably more of an energy mass than a sentient being. Or something. If I die in a lightning incident tomorrow, then you'll know I was wrong.

I'm glad u asked about the show...
It's about a member of the church who LITERALLY goes out and performs investigations on possible "miracles" or miracle workers. The guy's been working for over 4 years and EVERY single incident he ran into has some explaination of some sort...
The first episode [which aired last week] had him run into (while on sabatical no less ^_^) a "true" miracle worker. He tried to report it to his superiors at his church consel...
SPOILER....
The Most Senior said that there just isn't enough evidence aside from eyewitness reports. No solid documents. The thing is, the guy [whose name escapes me] then barked up and said that he's been at it for four years and in this investigation, the healer [an anemic boy who could heal by touch and then got sicker with each healing, the investigator was crushed by a train while driving and would have died had not the boy embraced him and healed him...] personally healed him. The Most Senior of his church counsel simply put the file away somewhere and the investigator [his most "badass" moment] said, I hereby resign as miracle investigation officer of this church.
Odd thing is, his "friend" who gave him the lead on the boy said he didn't remember at all giving him the lead and that they hadn't talked in months. o_0
Sure it's a movie but I remember a leader of a company said something while I was at a certain convention: "Coincidence is God's way of staying anonymous..."
It sounded funny to me at first, but when you think about, some "coincidences" are just too fucking convenient. Don't tell me that if you've lived for so long, nothing EVAR "seemed" too convenient to ya did it? ^_^

I would say that I do believe in some form of God. Although it's a very loose form of belief, and a loose God. It's just there, not really worrying about my daily life or vice versa.
As for the afterlife, I think there is a sort of heaven, I do think we are judged based on our deeds after death (so behave !), reincarnation is a choice, not a given, and that those who are judged to be unfit for heaven have their souls mercifully destroyed, instead of spending eternity in some hell. I also don't think there is any Satan, since God deals out punishment if needed. I think the Bible is more of a compilation of history and moral guidance (or ideals, more like) texts, with an undercurrent story of an observed alien (extraterrestial) power struggle here on Earth.
Yeah, just a look into kthulhu's religious thought process.... 8)

I'm an atheist I figure if theres a god, heaben or a hell, ill worry about that if there is one and I get there im open to the possibilty that there is a god but if anyone tried to convert me id get pretty pissed. I feel that religion people should choose for themselves and not forced upon.
Just thought id add , my friend was a devote to his religion and one day he lost his cat and he prayed for like two weeks for his cat to come home safe and then he got this phone call that someone found his cat. He then went to see if it was his cat and the people said that it was on their lawn. What he found was pieces of his cat spread across somebodys lawn, apparently some wild animal had killed it.

I've got no soul to sell....

an excuse for the small minded and weak to explain their place in the universe and make them feel like they were planned in their creation...

Not Another Religion Thread >_<
Gah :\
God doesn't exist .... END of STORY. The people dying in the building or getting burning up in the sky are not going to HEAVEN, there is NOT A heaven :\
Damn I guess I am a athiest now. However I came to the conclusion that humans do NOT have souls. We are extremely complex organic computers that waltz around and do stuff. Once the computer shuts off, "we" shut off. We have little programs running littler programs and littler programs and so on. It's a fine ballet of micro-mangament
So think about it like you shut down Internet Explorer. Is that instance of IE still alive in some alternate dimension or a "IE Heaven". No. I don't see how we are much different.
I think the columbia disater really brought those to me. Since the "machine" they were riding on ceased to exist(well it was in piieces). Everyone around the world was saying "They're in heaven right now" or praying for them. The fact is the shuttle is in pieces and the astronauts are in pieces :\ The astronauts are NOT "alive", they are GONE DEAD, THEY ARE NOT IN HEAVEN. Like if you turned off a light.
Harsh but true :\

What are my thoughts on God...OmniStrata wrote: What are your thoughts on God?
That when it comes to God, nobody truly understands what they're talking about. Whether you believe in it (God) or not your just guessing at yet another 'supernatural' element of this great universe. Weird stuff happens all the time, you can either explain it, ignore it, or eventually find out what it was that happened. The Third of which will usually never happen no matter how hard you may try and will leave you with the first two options. If you do find out what happened, you probably still won't know, and if you try to go further you probably won't get any more info about it which will eventually drive you insane unless you stop. Then you will have two more options given to you.. stay ignorent, or stay ignorent with an open mind just in case something like that ever comes up again.
Some people build a religon around the most they know about the supernatural and call it some spin off on the word God, or just God, When in actuality they are only creating a code of ethnics to live by. Without ethnics I doubt we would be were we are now. Nowadays though, people mainly wish to create there own form of ethnics instead of following an established one that beleave's in one form of 'supernatural' occurences and doesn't sway to new 'supernatural' occurances that undoubtable spring up all the time. For example 'Aliens' would be a supernatureal occurance that many established religons have no explianation for, nor do they want to, which make them ignorent in the eye's of those who have seen and believe otherwise. I believe atheism stems from unflexibility and the willingness of longtime religous organizations to adaquetly explain the many supernatural occurances that have, can, had, will happen. To choose/create ones own ethnics and follow ones own way in life can be very satisfying. To find a group a people that share simular values makes it all the sweeter, unless your a hermit but I think they even get lonely sometimes.
Some would choose to follow their own beliefs then follow the beliefs of organized religons because of the demands religon makes on them. The old supernatural beliefs giving way to the new ones. The new ethnics taking over the old. Will Religon survive the transition, unknown, Star Trek doesn't seem to think so, their basis being solely on the ethnic part.. unless you refer to all things as God. Star Wars thinks so, it having the religon part with ethnics but surprisingly with no God in it.. unless you refer to the Force as God.
But anyway, I think I've philosiphied and psycobabbled enough for now (Although I prefer to philosiphy). If what I wrote makes any sense to you, good for you, if it doesn't at least you know what I was talking about in my first line (Not saying that the former people do). This is just the way I feel on this issue, and my beliefs are very dynamic as I may feel differently about what I wrote 4 years from now or tomorrow. Although as of now, I feel secure enough to share my views with those that have asked, or are interested. My personal opinion toward what happened to Omnistrata being "Make a suitable explianation for it and be happy".
Thats it, time to get some sleep.
