BDs
Just installed my first internal BD player/burner in my comp; and I have started to rip a BD. Anything I should know? Do I just use AvSP and Virtual Dub as normal? ect?

Re: BDs
Depending on what the codec in the m2ts is, the process might be different.
Generally you'll be dealing with AVC video, so you can use tsmuxer to demux the video stream, mkvmerge to remux it into an mkv, then use ffvideosource on that.
Also they generally are progressive, too.
So just crop and resize as needed and then make lossless clips (editing with avs directly with BDs is too slow, really).
I guess that's it.

Is using ffms2 on a BD wise? :problems:

Re: BDs
Well using it on a .m2ts directly can be safe or not, but once remuxed it should be fine as long as it's progressive. Now, if you have an interlaced source, it's another deal...Mister Hatt wrote:Is using ffms2 on a BD wise? :problems:

Re: BDs
Might have been a good idea to tell that to the OP instead of assuming his source was easy. Even on progressive remuxed stuff, ffms2 can have problems, especially on non-linear seeking. Eden of the East and sorakake BD's are both good examples.

Re: BDs
I doubt he's dealing with imported Blu-rays, I think it's more likely that he has Funimation BDs, and I have not seen yet a Funi BD not being progressive, upscale or not.Mister Hatt wrote:Might have been a good idea to tell that to the OP instead of assuming his source was easy.
Which is another good reason to make lossless clips as I did suggest.Even on progressive remuxed stuff, ffms2 can have problems, especially on non-linear seeking. Eden of the East and sorakake BD's are both good examples.

Re: BDs
I've yet to see funimation actually do a bluray in 1080p. Everything I've seen has been upscaled DVD, and I've seen almost every disc they've done. Seems a waste of money imo.

Re: BDs
They've done 540/720 shows upscaled to 1080p. And honestly, it's not like shows are 1080p in Japan either.Mister Hatt wrote:I've yet to see funimation actually do a bluray in 1080p. Everything I've seen has been upscaled DVD, and I've seen almost every disc they've done. Seems a waste of money imo.

Re: BDs
Quite a few are 480 though. For some reason, they were using digital masters of analog anime, which was all 480. I haven't verified it myself but I am told that their Black Lagoon BD was 480->1080 while the Japanese one was 576->1080 (the JP one being 576 I can verify.)

Re: BDs
Well, the Funimation Blu-Rays are often cheaper than the DVDs ... so infact you are saving money.
and I finshed ripping and converting a few things. Seems like it's just like doing a DVD.
