I know that this combination of effects is kinda overdone and also like digital effects masturbation, but I'd still like to know how it's done. For example, Fallen Souls at 0:19-0:48 and the infamous Spoil from 1:26-1:30.
Anyway, yea, how do you get that gritty look to work? (It also looks like the Fallen Souls guy masked textures all over his video, frame by frame.) I've got access to After Effects and Vegas 9, but the best facsimile I can come up with isn't as impressive.

Texture + film effect + overlay blending setting maybe? :O I've never tried it so I'm not sure really.

Yea, I think you're right. I think I've managed to cook together a good enough alternative, playing with levels and film grain.
