Wrist Pain from Editing?

Post by Obsidian Zero » Fri Jun 13, 2014 5:21 pm

Hey, guys! I've been working really hard on my latest AMV, and yesterday I started noticing some pain in my mouse wrist. I can feel tightness in the ligaments in my fingers and a sharp, throbbing sensation from wrist to shoulder. I wrapped it in a brace and I'm now pathetically attempting to use my left hand to type this post (which has taken forever to do). Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what do you do to alleviate the pain or prevent it from happening in the first place?

Help is very appreciated,

Obsidian

Make sure your wrists are laying flat on something, it helps a lot.

Getting one of those wrist rests would be great to have as well. I have one at the office (one I got from Record of Argarest War) and it really helps keep my wrist from getting hurt spending so much time at my PC with my hand on my mouse.

As the others said, keep your wrist relaxed and as straight as possible, (mouse pad rests help alleviate this). Not only could you have muscle strain, but you could have early symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome, (which is when the large, median nerve in your wrist is pinched after being bent for extended periods of time). That's the extreme case, of course, but it's always best to not let it get that bad. Also, be aware of how you're sitting for long periods of time; if you slouch or sit oddly turned you can pinch nerves in your shoulder and/or back that extend down to your wrist. Just take a break when you start feeling pain, do some shoulder stretches, relax your wrist, and lay down for a few hours before going back to it.

I tried a lot of those wrist mouse pads and they didn't work so well. But then I tried a Titty-Mouspad and it worked perfectly.
Also having a mouse big enough for your Hand is nice. And Gyrotwists are a good exercise if you use PCs a lot.

Look at the section 'Work Surfaces'. The keyboard and mouse should be at/near your resting elbow height.

my elbow is usually resting on the desk so it's level with my wrist.

my problem is my knees cuz I typically sit like L when I edit X(
