Hootie & the Blowfish AMV watch party: official thread

Post by seasons » Thu Jun 25, 2015 8:38 pm

Been a very long time since I've watched an AMV like this one. Those were the days, am I right? I thought opinions were still mandatory in 2003? If only Nate Z had gotten some he might still be with us today.

It's been a while since I've listened to this song and I was unprepared for how long it was or at least how long it felt.

I've never played this game, maybe this is a really great AMV and the best parts are just lost on me? I did like it more than most of the other video game music videos (VGMVs?) I've seen. Maybe it's not as hard to capture scenes from games as it used to be? Looks better than any others I've seen, all of which predate this one, and yes, I know this most definitely definitely isn't a new game by any means.

Went to the Final Fantasy "Distant Worlds" symphony, a year or two ago. Pretty cool how they match the music to the videos. Last time, two guys almost got in a fistfight in the lobby during intermission. I guess I don't remember much else from it but I had a good time.

Why is there a Collective Soul AMV in this thread? Glad you asked! OldKeeneFarmer only uploaded 2 AMVs during his time with us, but he mixed them up! Not like I care but if I was downloading these on DSL back in 2003, I'd probably have been pretty pissed about it.

So, another video game music video, this time a mash-up of Final Fantasy 8 and 9, and Xenogears. Not really "random" as there's lots of lyric sync, but I don't know what any of these sources have to do with each other or what's actually happening at any point in this. Hard to hate since it has an okay sense of flow and feels like it's working according to some kind of logic, and also feels like a time capsule from the pre-9/11, pre-social media world we can never go home to again, a glimpse into the innocence and hope of a world forever lost.

I think I got lost in them before they were even over and never found my way out.

Except for the dial-up Internet, it's not so bad.

Just looked up the Wikipedia entry for this series and apparently it's all about the characters holding hands, savvy viewers will want to keep that in mind.

That's every Hootie and the Blowfish AMV I could find on the Internet. Maybe tomorrow I'll do a thread like for Linkin Park, I'll see if I have time.
