Re: Ghost Audition
The effects started off weird, but still interesting. And the scene selection is pretty good. But 4 1/2 minutes is a long time to wait the the "reveal" at the end. And even then, I'm still not sure what you were going for. So I just wish that you had expressed your concept for this video better.

Re: Ghost Audition
It's so smooth
I've been listening to Floex for a few days nonstop after watching this video. It's the first video Makes me wanna get back into editing.
I'm curious about how you kept the AE project manageable given how you synchronized the scenes to the music. Was this one more or less difficult to make than your previous videos?
P.S. Fun release date. Were you aiming for the 19th though? That might've been more appropriate ^^

Re: Ghost Audition
I wouldn't say the syncing was particular hard in this project, but overall this project was indeed the hardest I've done yet, mostly due to the balance of the effects, and the compositing in the relevant parts. I also spent a lot of time to work out the concept in the first place.
The project file actually contains the whole project of GEHIRNSTURMEN, which in turn contained the whole tan(x) project. In short, it was a big fucking mess, lol. I split the project in like 6 timelines, so that way comps were only limited to like ~200 layers max or so. Anything more and it becomes hard to navigate these things. Towards the end I had to clean up the whole project cause the load times became riddiculous and the ratio of unused layers/used layer in one of the timelines was like 7/1. I wish I could've used the newest version of AE, which actually moved processing the interface to a seperate thread, but I couldn't since that version has some very bad sound issues for me. I still used CS6.
I don't actually get the memes surrounding the release dates, I know that 420 is somehow a meme but nah I didn't go for anything like that.

Re: Ghost Audition
First of all loved abstractedness of this work. Depending of the viewer and his investment in this video he might see this it as very shallow or very deep work. It all depends on his imagination and kudos for harnessing this powerful thing. At first i thought that it's length is a negative thing, but thinking back at it, that same length is what allows to fully immerse in this atmosphere. Audio choice also good for this idea, music constantly morphs into something new don't letting viewer to be bored and since you were able to keep up with this very unpredictable sound the end result is quite nice. While I might sound like this all make sense to me I actually was quite impressed how work of this length don't get boring even after multiple re-watches.

Re: Ghost Audition
This is the lolligerjoj AMV I've been waiting for.
I really like Into the Labyrinth and I loved tan(x) and I admire GEHIRNSTURMEN but keep it at arm's length because I really wanted to get lost in it because it's one of the least compromising and most original pieces of work that have ever come out of this hobby and yet every time I always feel like I'm watching it at my own risk.
So we come to this video and honestly this is just a world I don't ever want to leave. I'm getting ready for work so I can't give this post the time it deserves but I also can't stand to let this video fall off the 1st page in this forum with barely a handful of replies. So quick and dirty review: this is the most psychedelic and experimental and beautiful AMV I've ever watched. I've been looking for something like this for a long time and yet I should have known that it wouldn't exist until you made it and here we are.
This video is a big deal and everyone should watch it. Do so in the dark and on a good screen and don't take this for granted.
Probably would have been better to wait and post something less hyperbolic but I doubt these will be the last words I say about this AMV.

Will someone please explain to me what the hell I just watched?
This does however make me wish that our contest was getting more entries of the Artistic type this year...

Re: Ghost Audition
I feel like I could say a lot about this...eventually. I've watched it a couple times now and I feel like there's quite a lot going on that will take me several more viewings to fully dig down to. Regardless of the meaning, I already love this video and am pretty confident it will end up my favorite of yours up to this point. The colors, the psychedelia, the scene selection, the consistent and trademark effect work...everything about this video stands out, and although I feel like you're pushing yourself a little less with this release than with your previous videos, I also feel like this is a more personal video than any of your others. As a Ghibli tribute (something I never thought I'd see from you, tbh), it's by far the most unorthodox and probably least nostalgia-exploitative of any I've ever seen, or am likely to. But I love that about it -- taking something that everyone else does at least once in their lives and bending it to your own unique and somewhat twisted style.
It's a beautiful video, one of the best of the year thus far, and as ever I'm looking forward to whatever it is you come up with next.
P.S. My (now-)wife watched this one with me, and unfortunately she didn't have as much to say about this one as she did about GEHIRNSTURMEN, but she definitely liked it
