Insomnia AMV - LittleAtari
Well it has been a while...
This was a video that I started long ago, when I was still in undergrad. Digging through my files, I started this video in 2010. I started this video when I was dealing with I was dealing with a first major death in the family. At the time, I had trouble sleeping and when I would sleep, I had bad dreams. So I would edit this video late at night until I was exhausted and fell asleep.
As final projects for undergrad came around, the project got put on hold and forgotten when I entered grad school. In December 2016, I graduated with a Masters in Fine Art in Animation and moved back home while looking for a job in the industry. It was during this time that I got into a car accident while doing an animation test for a prospective game company and so I missed that opportunity. In addition, my grandmother, who I helped take of passed away. I was grounded because flying out for interviews was hindering progress in my recovery. So I became very demotivated work on my own animation. That's when I found this project file laying around.
I was surprised to see how much of the video was finished and how little I had left to do. So I decided to finish it and it was therapeutic. I'm not a creative person in the traditional sense. Yes, I went to art school, but I am horrible at drawing. I can't handle a DSLR camera well. I don't play a musical instrument... Well you get the point. Editing AMVs was the only creative outlet that I had besides animating, which I did exclusively for school. Ultimately, it's what lead me to become an animator. However, I didn't edit while in school. I felt like all my creative energy was spent and I didn't have time or energy to edit anymore. This was a return to my roots and after I completed this video, I began animating again. I am feeling a lot better now and I'm in talks with another game studio. My hope is that one day it'll be my animation that you guys are editing to.
