AMV Tracker v1.3.0 released

Post by CrackTheSky » Sat Mar 14, 2020 6:44 pm

Hello everybody! Some of you may remember a few years ago, when I first announced AMV Tracker. For those who don't -- AMV Tracker is a program I wrote which allows you to keep track of all the AMVs you watch. More than that, you can rate and tag the videos you enter into it, and record all sorts of data on each one, including release date, song name/artist name, anime used, contests the video has been entered in, and other things. Since I first released it, a ton of things have been added -- it's practically a different program now compared to the version 1.0.0 release.

I just released v1.3.0, which is likely the last "big" update I'll be releasing for AMV Tracker. A non-exhaustive list of features AMV Tracker now has that it didn't when I first released it:
  • If you keep videos on your HDD, you can specify the file location of the video and open videos directly from AMV Tracker.
  • Buttons which pull up searches for an editor or a specific video on YouTube or the .org.
  • Sub-databases -- databases which exist alongside your main database which you can add videos to separately.
  • Custom lists -- lists of videos which you create based on whatever criteria you choose (i.e. a list of your favorite videos, or the best videos of a certain genre, etc.)
  • Pull up a search on MyAnimeList for any anime listed in a video that you've added to your database.
  • Many statistics functions added that give you multiple ways to slice and visualize the data in your database.
  • AMV Notepad: A tool for keeping track of your AMV ideas, with the ability to note potential songs, anime, and concepts you might want to use in your own AMVs. Also has ways to prioritize these ideas and indicate your progress, note deadlines, etc.
  • ...and many more! See the changelog for an exhaustive list.
Included with AMV Tracker is my own database which I've been adding to for about 6 years at this point, in case you want to take a look and see what it looks like. Of course, you can also start from scratch and build your own database as well!

I built AMV Tracker to be as self-explanatory as possible, but in case you want an overview of all of its functions, head on over to this section of the AMV Tracker website to get the rundown on how it all works.

As a side-note, some of you may well remember the AMV Genome Project. This is essentially what caused me to make AMV Tracker in the first place; what's more, I haven't given up on that idea and now that I've finally built out all the statistics stuff that I had needed when I first envisioned the Genome Project, I can finally get to work on all sorts of analysis and stuff. More to come on that later! (Although it'll probably be a while.)

Anyway -- if any of this piques your interest, please feel free to download AMV Tracker here. All you need to do is extract the folder in the ZIP, and then double-click amv_tracker.exe to run. That's it! You'll be prompted to choose a database to set as the working database (either a blank one or the copy of mine which is included), and then you can start adding videos.

If you come across any unexpected behavior, bugs, etc., please let me know here or via PM and I'll be happy to look into it. There's a list of known issues here, so check there first if anything weird comes up. I've spent a lot of time using this program so it should be pretty stable, but I'm always finding minor things that need to be tweaked so it wouldn't surprise me if I overlooked things.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy!

In case anyone checked this out over the last week and found that they couldn't add any videos to their new, blank database, that bug has been fixed. Please download v1.3.0a and it should work like a charm now!
