Help with avi's please.
Every once in a while, one of the avi's i download doesnt work properly. Sometimes there is no picture, and othertimes no sound. Do I need to download something?

Sure you do... you are missing some codecs 
Usually it is DivX codecs which you can find at DivX.com or doom9. If you are using Windoze Media Player 6.2 you might also need some new M$ codec from WMP 7.X
For the latter case I suggest to uninstall the sucky 7.X right after installing it... you will keep the codecs and have the infinitely better ol' trusty 6.2

You quite possible need to install DivX 3.11a.

either that or you have a total moron who encoded the video... 
but yea, most likely the codecs. play around with your player and hardware settings if you're still having trouble.
