Curious about Metropolis "Noise"
Followed the ErMaC's guide and I am using the d2v files for Metropolis in premiere....but I noticed that in select scenes I get greenish "noise" - well, dark green pixels dancing about - specifically about 3/4 in when Rock circles Tema - if the background is black (or very dark). It's not really a problem because I don't plan on using any of the scenes that are affected, I was just curious if any one knows why that is happening.

ErMaC's FAQ section actually has a question devoted to this problem, but alas the link given does not work.
here is a thread that talks about the problem and how to fix it
basically you just need to put
Levels(0,1,255,6,255)
in your avs file

I get the same problem, at the exact same scene. And all this time I thought it was a problem with my MJPEG encoder
One of the big causes of this discoloration is usually due to the video not being correctly decrypted. Probably the Metropolis DVD uses some rather nasty key-shifting that's difficult to pick up. My GoVideo hardware DVD player stumbled a bit in that scene (and in a few others), so maybe that's it.
In any case, if your situation is really all that similar to mine, you can sorta-kinda work around the problem by (1) that posted method (though as I don't use Premiere, I can't vouch for how well it works) or (2) just skipping ahead by one or two frames. The discolored video usually returns to normal by then, and you really don't lose anything of importance.

Thanks for the link to the thread. I totally didn't see it. Fixed the green, I'm working on fixing the orange. (Although I said i wasn't going to use that footage, I changed my mind.)
Do you a bunch on the wheel that is moving in the background? I don't know if it is - but it looks like it was computer generated. I was wondering if the different type of animation was effecting it - because it shows up on on moving parts like that throughout the movie....

When I did my Metropolis vid, I had this exact same problem, this discolorization happens in a couple of places in a few different anime series too. I've found it in Evangelion and Metropolis, and I think I remember it in the X movie too. In Metropolis, is appears on the CG Gears in the background, and also on one of the main character's(Tima) eyes. So you just have to keep an eye out for this and the use the many options available for fixing this.

This is what the wheel room looks like for me in Cinelerra's viewer. This is from VTS_01_6.VOB. Open image files in a new window to view them.

This is the discoloration I'm referring to, which is, I suspect, caused by improper decryption.
