Letterboxing in Premiere

Post by vixencid » Thu Oct 30, 2003 3:33 am

Hi there, I have a question for any who can answer. I am trying to get Premiere 6.5 to letterbox (or similar) when I export, but I can't seem to find out how to do it. If anyone can tell me how, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You could always export it uncompressed and then use an Avisynth script like this:

Code: Select all

AVISource("c:\myvid.avi")
Addborders(0,x,0,y)
where x and y are the amount of black to add to top and bottom respectively.

If you don't have Avisynth, you can do the same thing in Virtualdub too. I think there's an option to add black bars in the Null Transform filter.

If you absolutely have to do it in Premiere, I guess you could export the project uncompressed, create a new project with a slightly bigger resolution and then import the temporary file. There should be an option somewhere to keep the aspect ratio so that you end up with letterboxed video.

with avisynth though You might want to crop the footage before adding the black bars, unless the footage is already cropped.

If you meant to crop (instead of adding margins), there is an option in Premiere.

Export Movie -> Settings -> Special Processing -> Modify

well thats one way, but wouldn't it just add more time to the rendering process?
