Disqualified from VCA. Reason is confusing.
I got an e-mail saying that one of my videos may qualify for this years VCA but I was pending disqualification for sorted reasons. One was
"No Indication for all videos in catalog"
And the other was
"Has videos with only non-anime footage"
I read the rules but still don't understand what the first one means. Some time ago I put in a request to merge 2 videos because one was entered in error. The request has been pending ever since but never handled. Is this the thing getting flagged?
As for the second. I've made several videos using American animation. (but never live action) Do those disqualify me from the contest forever?

The first one means you have to tick the box in your main profile that says "all my videos are listed" or words to that effect.
Instead of requesting a merge (which is hard to do) you can request a video to be deleted using the link at the bottom of the edit my videos page.
All the videos using american cartoons are non-anime and will disqualify you forever unless you delete them, yes.

I put in a request for the deletion just for cleanliness sake. Though I don't intend on deleting my non-anime videos. Is there a place on the site where "Anime" is defined?
I understand that the whole AMV movement started with Japanese cartoons but it seems really unfair or even racist to say "Only cartoons made in japan qualify"

Thats fine. But there are many good videos in this catalog to non japanese cartoons. Are you saying the "Anime" part of the name is more important than the "Music Video" part?
I hope I won't get kicked off the forum or saying so. But what makes Japan so important? I thought the purpose of making videos was creativity and art not celebrating a country.

All true, but there are places for non-anime videos, and this isn't one of them. The site was created for anime music videos, and therefore that is its purpose. Although I think that we can all recognise worthiness in other cartoons or what have you as source for a video, that's not what this site, admittedly and openly specialist, is for.DarkArbiter wrote:Thats fine. That's my two cents.

It really comes down to the fact that this site is called AnimeMusicVideos.org. No-one's denying the coolness and/or importance of music videos using any kind of other footage (be it live action or American animation)... but that's not what this site is for.DarkArbiter wrote:Thats fine. I wouldn't go to BemaniStyle and upload a traditional dance chart... it's for DWIs. Dancing and DDR may have similar backgrounds, but that's not what BemaniStyle is for... it's for DWIs. It's the same way, here.

Places for non-anime videos on the internet? I was honestly unaware of that fact. I don't really do alot of surfing. Well thanks for explaining that for me.
I still don't think its fair to disqualify an anime video because the creator made other non-anime videos though. Just seems to much like punishing people for having other interests.

Google "fanvids" plus the series/movies you're working from. I only know of sites for movie-based vids (www.fanflix.com) and a couple of mailing lists for live-action TV-based vids. Or, ask a message board for the series in question. I'd bet someone's heard of it.DarkArbiter wrote:Places for non-anime videos on the internet? I was honestly unaware of that fact. (Seriously, I keep answering this question. I lurk around lists for live-action vidding because I think it's an interesting counterpart to AMVing.)
Big fallacy there: you're not being "punished" for making them, you're being "punished" for putting them on the site. Nobody ever said "never make non-anime videos," they just said "find somewhere else to display/list/host them."I still don't think its fair to disqualify an anime video because the creator made other non-anime videos though.
