adobe after effects 5.0

Post by _Shinji_ » Sun Apr 04, 2004 7:04 pm

I currently use Premiere 6.5 It's good and all but the errors and non-response from the program are starting to get really annoying.

I then decided to look at the software section for a replacement. adobe after effects 5.0 had pure good reviews so it caught my attention. Can anyone give me the detials of how adobe after effects 5.0 runs compared to Premiere? Thanks.

You use these two programs for two entirely different things. AE is on version 6 now btw. AE is way harder to learn and use than premiere.

In my experience, After Effects doesn't crash nearly as often as Premiere does. And when it does happen to crash, it is kind enough to let you save your priject file before it goes down. Nearly every crash I have experienced with After Effect's has been due to a 3rd party plugin.
Some things to keep in mind though: After Effects versions before 6.0 don't support most video files that aren't in RGB colorspace. So you will basically need to convert your videos to uncompressed or HuffYUV in order to use them. I have had no problem importing any sort of files into version 6, including Divx files.
Also note that no version of After Effects allows you to bring in Avisynth files (Though there are ways around this).

Version 5 is pretty old though, I would recommend getting 6 if you could afford it, or at least 5.5.

Oh yea, I just noticed you said you were looking for a replacement >.>
AE is by no means a replacement for Premiere.
I would suggest you look into Vegas if you want a nice replacement. Version 5 is coming out very soon.
