can any one tell me what an ova is?

hey, i just started watching kenshin, and when lookin around online i saw a few people refering to OVAs. can any one tell me what they are? thanks!!

OVA - (or OAV) Stands for Original Video Animation. Anime that went directly to video or DVD.

In Kenshin terms, this means the prequels, termed 'Trust and Betrayal' in America (4 episodes, should be watched after the 62nd anime episode), and the sequel, called 'Reflection' in America (2 episodes, to be watched after the first two OVAS).

thanks so much guys! im around episode 45 right now. i'll have to hunt down the OVAs when i get to ep. 60. are there any OVAs or something similar for inuyasha?
