What did you start with?

Post by Madokai » Mon May 31, 2004 3:10 pm

Which series was it that got you into anime (name more than one if you like).

For me there were several anime series that I loved as a child:
- Samurai Pizza Cats (Probably the first anime I was ever addicted to, and the second I've seen in my life)
- Speed Racer (Watched all the time, didn't realize until about 5 years ago that it was an anime)
- Dragonball (This series was so much better than DBZ ^_^, no 20 minute stare-offs only to be left with an "on the next episode...", and WAY less censoring)

For me those were the first three animes that I ever watched (unless I'm forgetting). They were what introduced me into the world of anime. Anyways I'd like to know what got you started ^_^.

I ran before I learned to walk when I started with anime. My first anime was Outlanders, I was 9 back then.

Here he comes, here comes Speed Racer, he's a demon on wheels...GO Speed Racer go, GO Speed Racer go, GO, SPEED RACER, GOOOOOOO! Ah, Speed Racer, the first one I ever saw. Back then, though, I thought everything, including Nintendo, was American, and I didn't even think that other countries could produce animation. I was like 8 at the time.

Dragon Dragon! Rock the Dragon! Dragon Baaaaall Zeeeee! I woke up real early one day and turned on the TV. Right before I was about to change the channel, I saw a really weird 'cartoon' style on the set, so I kept watching. Some blue skinned guy was threatening some blue haired chick. I was like wtf. Soon some dude in an orange jumpsuit starting shouting "KA ME HA ME HA!" I was hooked from that point on, for about three years. I was about 9 at the time. I've never seen DB, but seen LOTS of DBZ, tho' I love the DB manga.

Fighting evil by moonlight...winning love by daylight...never running from a good fight...she is the one named Sailor Moon! I loved that show mostly because of Usagi's voice actress. Pwnage in that voice. Damn the new one. I don't like her. Anyway, I watched this when I was ten, because I remember talking about it with my fifth grade teacher, and I was in the fifth grade when I was ten.

I don't remember the Samurai Pizza Cats theme song, but I loved that show. It was on right after Sailor Moon, on whatever channel I saw it on.

...I wanna be...the very best...that no one ever was...Ah, Pokemon. Great games. Great show. Too bad it became associated with children due to the marketing. I still play the games because they rock, and they're not childish at all, but I don't watch the show anymore. I've missed too many episodes to be familiar with it anymore. I LOVED it though - Wake up, Play Pokemon, Watch Pokemon, Go to school, Trade Pokemon cards with other Pokemon freaks...Those were the good old days. That was when I was around...eleven?

Zankoku No Tenshi No Te-Ze...For two years I abstained from cartoons, as I became addicted to a game called Ragnarok Online, and then got a girlfriend. Then she dumped me v.v I went into a suicidal depression, and while seeking some way to distract myself, I learned more about anime - that it was different than 'cartoons', and decided to watch some. I looked for 'the best anime', and everyone recommended Neon Genesis Evangelion. I found the box set and bought it. Nine hours straight of NGE later...I was never the same. I wanted to commit suicide even more (damn depressing NGE) but I was in love with NGE!

Somewhere before that, I watched a lot of Monster Rancher and Digimon. I also watched the Princess Mononoke movie every night for a month. God, I love that film, the number of times I've seen it is in the triple digits...

...Anyway...it was DBZ that got me into anime, and NGE that made me religiously devote myself to it.

I'd seen some Sailor Moon on TV in middle school, and stumbled across the subtitled movies in a store a few years later. Picked one up, and after watching it I was hooked. Next came Ranma 1/2, and my interest just grew from then on.

The first anime that got me hooked would be 08th MS Team. I currently watched Toonami every now and then as it was just something to do when I was bored. After a while I started to get more hooked on it. Eventually they started to show 08th MS Team and it was awsome. My favorite type of mobile suit is the Zaku II

I *almost* bought the NGE DVD box set... for a good price too... >.< sadly I didn't have $80 at the time, and I still don't, and I doubt it's still on the shelf.

But this is really cool reading how everyone got started on the stuff ^_^. Keep replying. Kirby says so! <(^_^)>
