Help me find the perfect song.

Post by hellfire104 » Sat Aug 28, 2004 11:19 am

I am looking for the perfect song to make a new music video. I would be really happy if I could get some suggestions based on the criteria that I am going to provide. :}

1) 3-4 mins in length

2) I want the song to have audio effects in the song. Something that can be set to special effects. For example, an echo, a really strong beat, maybe from really crisp, clear guitar notes.

3) The tempo shouldn't be too fast, and not too slow.

4) Nothing to heavy. If the song is too hardrockish, then the volume of the music will drownd the subtle background noises that can be set to effects.

5) Diversity in music. For example, in System of a Downs "Toxicity", the song starts calm and then it explodes. This allows suprise to be brought upon the viewer. The problem with Toxicity is that its too hardcore.

6) Difference in Tempo. I am generally not looking for techno or rap, the reason being that songs of those Genre's tend to have the same tempo throughout the entire thing, and it gets boring. Think of a rhapsody, a rhapsody has many different moods and tempos.

7) Clear lyrics, and a strong theme.

I know that that is alot of pickiness, but if you want a really good song example, check out the video Euphoria on this website. That song is excellent. Thats the kind of thing that I am looking for.

Thanks for helping, Ive been searching for along time, without much to show for it. I am truly greateful for your help.

Well, if this isn't the right section, what section is? Also, I like the song Toxicity, but I am not looking for heavy metal here...

The section should probably be "AMV suggestions" rather than music.

And, don't worry about some comments you might get in the music area - we have a number of real hardcore/metal fans here who'll argue about genre definitions, etc., to the end of eternity

Myself, I might've had a few suggestions, but you'd probably take them for jokes

I was gonna recommend Man or Astro-Man? until I got to

If you're willing to give an instrumental song or three a chance, take a listen to these (if you can find them):

1) Man or Astro-Man? - (Trapezoid)

(Trapezoid) is how I write the title of the song, and how Windows Media Player attributes the song. It's actually the shape on the CD track listing. Definitely fits all the criteria except there are no lyrics.

2) Man or Astro-Man? - Television Fission

Another good catchy song. Again, no lyrics.

3) Man or Astro-Man? - The sound waves reversing

I like this song a lot too. There is ONE line in the song. It's some sample from an old 50s scifi movie or TV show.
"Why has the music stopped?" "Look at the monitor! The sound waves....they're reversing!"
At which time the song starts playing backwards for a little bit, then restarts.

OH, one more...though I was planning a video to it someday, go ahead and run with it if you like:

4) Man or Astro-Man? - Lo batt

LYRICS. And funny ones at that. "If I could...concentrate.....if I could concentrate, I...think she....can manipulate....time!" :)

I'm a huge fan of this band.

The group that did "Must Be Dreaming", the song in Euphoria, have done other songs as well. "Let Go" is the most similar to "Must Be Dreaming", imo. Though I don't really think that "Must Be Dreaming" has much of a focussed theme. In fact, it seems more about a state of mind than anything else. But that's just me.

...I was thinking of doing an AMV to "Let Go" myself, but if you can do it well, go right ahead.

...can't really think of anything else. alot of the stuff I listen(ed) to is pop, which can be a bit... simplistic. My tastes seem to be changing though.

Oh, wait, maybe 86 (the band)'s "What You Whistle When You Walk Home After You've Thrown Up in Front of Your Friends". It's about being drunk and throwing up. In fact, if you listen closely, most of the songs on their first album are about being drunk. Though the lyrics are a little gross in parts, the instrumentals are really... um, evocative of what it feels like when you're about to throw up. :? It's both a really cool and really revolting song. It gets faster and slower, and the lyrics are pretty easy to understand. Also, there's a really nice whistling section. If you're willing to put up with the song, you could make quite a good video of it, I think.

:? Well then, after all the criteria the song has to match. There's no point to this but these songs might fit:
Artist - Song
Audioslave - Like a Stone
Guitar riffs and an unbelievable guitar solo. Its 4:50 minutes in length.
The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
At 5:58 in length it's long but you can cut it. It has violins and a grand intro. If you listen closely to it, the song has many layers, they boggle the mind sometimes.
TATU - All The Things She Said
Funny song to suggest but it has a closing door and the like.
Unwritten Law - Seeing Red
3:46 in length and a great song. The song features guitars riffs and just a different sound than others, unique I should say.
Vertical Horizon - Best I Ever Had
The tempo slowly increases through the song, and then it slows at the end only to increase a little at the very finish.
Third Eye Blind - Crystal Baller
The song is just great and weird; at 4:15 it’s good enough.
The All American Rejects - Swing, Swing
It has an organ in the song, enough said.
Modest Mouse - Satin in a Coffin
It’s 2:39 in length but it packs a wallop. Still this group and/or the song is an acquired taste.
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
At 5:57 it’s also long but again it can be cut. Plus what other song has that many different levels in it?
The Urge – It’s My Turn To Fly
You wanted sound effects; well this one has them, in a sense. But it may be too loud.
Other mentions:
Eagles - New York Minute, Conjure One - Center Of The Sun, Shawn Colvin - Sunny Came Home, Goo Goo Dolls - Big Machine, Nobuo Uematsu – Liberi Fatali.

Duly recommend you listen to the songs before discarding any of them. They’re all in English since I limited my response to only that language (Liberi Fatali notwithstanding).

Man I'm tired...
