fansub poll

I thought it might be kinda interesting for the "death of fansubs?" thread to take a quick poll as to whether people watch fansubs, and if they do, if they have actually bought the domestic releases of fansubs when they came out.

I do watch fan subs, and some of the fan subs I have bought the domestic releases for are Rurouni Kenshin, FMP!, Vandread, InuYasha, Bakaretsu Hunters, and Last Exile

Fansubs I plan to buy when they're released in the US include: Prince of Tennis, Naruto, Aishiteruze Baby, Samurai 7, Twin Spica, Full Moon Wo Sagashite, etc. The only one with a realease date right now is Samurai 7. I'm beginning to think FMwoS may never come over.

I have, though not recently (unfortunately; though this should change soon).

Pretty much all the series I intend in the near future to buy are those I saw on fansubs first; some of which haven't been released here yet. (e.g. Azumanga Daioh)

And oh, and as I'm sure that my current favorite 'Monster' is unlikely to get a license soon, I'm seriously thinking of importing that series [legally, of course] (despite its' length and probable cost).

The only anime I bought without seeing its' fansubs first was, I believe, KareKano.

Err, that sort of came off confusing, I don't mean that AD is not licensed; I just mean I haven't bought it yet

Heh, practically everything our anime club watches is fansubbed =/

The majority of fansubs I nab are unlicensed: Naruto, Sailor Moon StarS and PGSM.

Things I've seen via fansubs than bought:

Fushigi Yugi, Inu Yasha (though I'm stopping that for now to wait on boxsets), Angel Sanctuary, Cardcaptor Sakura Movies, Excaflowne, Fruits Basket, Gravitation, Magic Knight Rayearth, Nightwalker, Slayers OVAs.

I don't mind watching fansubs since I tend to buy them anyways.

Love Hina was the first anime I ever downloaded in fansub in its entirety, and I bought most of the DVDs on the days they were released. Plus the series artbox (the box for the specials and OVA was apparently an afterthought). My DVD burner is really sketchy, so usually buying the fansubbed titles is my only way of having a reliable source to watch them on without cluttering my hard drives.

Fansubs I've bought include Abenobashi (which I still refer to as Abenobashi Mahou Shoutengai since the poor fansubbers couldn't figure out exactly how they wanted to translate it), FLCL, the Cowboy Bebop movie (my first .avi file), KareKano, Someday's Dreamers, Kiddy Grade, and Tenchi Muyo GXP. I pretty much buy anything I like that I've seen fansubbed.

I'm planning on getting Airmaster (Air Master) and Scrapped Princess when they come out. I might get Asagiri no Miko (Shrine of the Morning Mist), but the thing is, I USED to really like it... I hadn't watched the sub for a long time (felt like a long time anyway) by the time it was licensed...

I only watch unlicensed subs... well it would be more accurate to say I only DOWNLOAD unlicensed subs.

If Kimi ga Nozomu Eien or Tsukuyomi Moon Phase is licensed, I would buy it, too.

But I don't think anything I've watched on fansub has yet had a US release... wait, no there's always Get Backers, which I haven't been buying or even keeping track of because I didn't like the subbed version nor the dub on Anime Network (saw the first two eps of each).

But I ramble. You get the point.
