The difference in anime and manga

Okay, I'm trying to get something straight here. In the Fruits Basket anime, I know they ended it differently from the manga because the manga is still ongoing. I'll say this first, I'm an Akito fan. I just tend to like the evil anime guys. Anyways, does anybody know about him perhaps being a girl?
