Ah! Megamisama TV *spoilers as series progresses*

Post by AmazonMandy » Thu Feb 10, 2005 3:56 pm

I was wondering if anyone else has been keeping up with this series, and what they thought of it so far.

I LOVE the Megamisama Universe, i have all of the manga...Kosuke Fujishima is one of the most gorgeous manga artists i know of. I thought the original OAVs were good too, (though not as good as the manga), and the movie was wonderful. However, i find myself being a little dissapointed so far in the TV series, as much as i have looked forward to it.

My first biggest problem would be the CG work in it. Now i don't mind cg in anime, as long as it FITS, and does so seamlessly. But this is not the case with the TV series Megamisama. At first its not too bad, but by episode 5...it was REALLY pissing me off. From Belldandy's "transporting" herself, carrying Keiichi's books, and then the horrible "fever" scene...the CG effects are more distracting than anything. They are just...going too far with it, relying on it too heavily.

My next complaint is the pace of the story. All in all, its following the manga a little more than the originas OAV did, and i like that they aren't rushing things as they had to in the first 5 episode series, but now it just seems its going TOO slow. I am DYING for Urd to show up and liven it up a little, and i just PRAY that they fit Maller (Mara) in this series...i love her so much!!

And my last complaint is ...well..Bell herself. I LOVE bell...she is so kind and pure, but at the same time (and i SWEAR its worse in this series)...she's ...uh whats the word...Well...they tried to make her seem TOO naive and innocent, to the point where she just comes off as a bit unintelligent and empty headed. I understand that she isn't familiar with all human customs, but seriously...look at Urd, Peorth, even Skuld...its not a typical goddess problem to be so airheaded about humans, just Belldandy. I would just generally respect her character more if she didn't give that non-understanding blank stare all the time, instead of being a bit smarter as in the manga.

Did i say that was my last complaint? Cause i just thought of one more :o
And this is pretty much true of the manga and the anime, so its not jsut the tv series...it always just bothered me a little HOW FAST Bell and Kei fell deeply into eternal love. Its a very romantic notion, but not so believeable. I want to SEE them fall in love. To GROW into it, not just meet and say "this is forever". Maybe thats just me though.

But still, the animation is pretty to look at, and i think the biggest Pro of the series so far is Keiichi himself. He is finally not just a semi-unattractive dolt...he LOOKS MUCH better, and is a much more believable character, and has more depth to him than he has ever gotten before. And like i said, its only ep 5, so i will keep watching and hope for some good stuff to come.

I've seen scattered advertisements in stores and on TV, but I haven't actually watched an episode so far. Part of this may have to do with the fact that the show airs at 2AM...

Ditzy? I love this show though, I've never seen the OAV's, movie, or read the manga, so the TV version is all I know, and I am liking it very much.

yes, ditzy. From transforming her clothes in public (something Urd, Skuld, and others have KNOWN not to do), to mistaking Kei's nerves for sickness, for seeming to have NO concept of money (again, something other goddesses get, at least in manga)... just generally in how she deals with things. She means well...but they just don't show her as being particularly bright.

That's pretty much how Bell is, at least in the manga. If she's given a concrete problem to work on, then she can solve things (math, navigation, etc.), but social stuff leaves her in a condition of pure cluelessness.

lol i guess i should just resign myself to the fact that she's not that bright. I dont' know why...i just wish she was a bit more intelligent in the social department.

I think it's the result of what can only be called an extremely sheltered upbringing.
