Excel Saga is on enough crack to kill three John Belushi's. The comedic value though is somewhat hit or miss as each episodes spoofs a different genre of anime and pop culture. If you are really into Japanese culture and have a broad knowledge of anime (pre-1999), I would recommend Excel Saga. :D

I have to admit, i haven't seen Digi Charat, but Excel Saga didn't live up to the hype for me. The last episode is cracky and hilarious, but the series itself was overrated. Its funny, lots of in-jokes, and cultural jokes (some people get those dvds with the pop ups to explain them all)... but really, none of the characters grabbed me (but Menchii), and the plot gets old and drags through some eps. BUT if you don't want anything deep, and just for some good visual gags, its a good one to look into.

Excel Saga - Random hilarity and utter chaos. Makes fun of everything, including itself.

Digi Charat - Cute girls with cat ears.

I thoght Excel Saga was pretty funny. I would suggest renting it though since it might not be exactly what you like. After that you can decide wether you want to buy it or not.

I'd have to buy Excel Saga, by default. Di Gi Charat is not avaliable in the United States, except in Panyo Panyo form.

Excel Saga. After seeing Di Gi Charat for the first time, the original version I mean, I thought it was goofy and had a cute comedic edge to it. But after the first spin off, that edge was completely gone and no longer interested me. Excel Saga retains the humor it starts with from begining to end, with SOME drama mixed in as well.
Probably too busy to be here right now.
