Premiere closing itself?

Post by lilmrhalfazn » Tue Apr 19, 2005 4:39 pm

I was just working on my third AMV, and was through around 2 minutes and 34 seconds of it. >_> It was for me at least perfect and what I wanted. I was dragging a clip to make it longer and Premiere just....closes. On its own. It just closes. I stop and stare at my computer for a second then panic. I checked my auto saves, and none of them are recent enough for me to try again, the most recent being at 48 some seconds. Please GOD tell me some of you know any way to get what I had back...PLEASE

Chances are it's gone, and not recoverable.

I long ago learned not to trust Premiere at all, and to save just about every time I got a clip placed and timed just right or an effect just the way I want it.

It's even worse if you do risky stuff like try to edit straight from divx or xvid clips.

It sucks, but that's the way it is. Save your project obsessively, it's the only way.

I hate to say it but if you didn't manually save and your auto save is old then there's not that much you can do. The only thing you can try is preview files. If you had previewed the project then Premiere saves a bunch of smallish .avi files that you might be able to use to reconstruct the video with. It'll be a pain in the neck and you'll have great difficulty making changes to the video but it might work. Probably easier to just redo the video though.

For future reference, hit CTRL-S frequently. I personally do it after every scene I finish. I'll even make a copy of the project file every couple hours just because I've had one go corrupt on me once.
