VDubMod Crashing While Compressing

I'm trying to compress my AMV to Xvid using VDM, but after a few minutes VDM either freezes my computer or just terminates itself. I've followed A&E's Technical Guide to the letter, but this error is not mentioned.

I've tried uninstalling-reinstalling both VDM and Xvid, but it doesn't seem to have had an effect.

Has anyone come across this before? Thanks in advance.

The weird cropping is because of the amount of black around the video with the Voices of a Distant Star DVD.
