Post by NiTsukiOutlaw » Tue Jul 19, 2005 10:28 pm

What is that gundam's name...!
Wufei calls it Nataku, but is that just a name that he uses,

Dr. J and Co. call it the Shenlong, but is that just the *new one that they remade for him...?

Ohh, and the model boxes say Altron..WTF?

Okay, the back story is that this:

The original Gundam of Wu-Fei's was the Shenlong Gundam. The second, after being rebuit/upgraded (I haven't seen it in soooooo long) is officially named Altron.

However, Wu-Fei calls both, "Nataku". Why?

Wu-Fei, as is customary for people of Asian birth, was arranged to marry a girl when he was young, and was deeply in love with her. This girl believed herself to be, or was believed to be, the reincarnation of a Dragon God named Nataku. However, the young girl died a few years before Operation Meteor came to pass.

Now remember, Gundams use an advanced form of AI to partially psychonetically link with their pilots - thus allowing them to do the extremely complex human-like moves they do - and adopt AI characteristics of those pilots (that's why Gundam pilots talk to their Gundams). After Shenlong was finished, Wu-Fei found that the AI of his Gundam had tendencies or thought patterns similar to his dead fiance, and thus believed that she had been reincarnated as his Gundam.

When Shenlong was salvaged and reassembled as Altron, the same core was used, and so Wu-Fei continued to call it Nataku, even though it is officially Altron by name. (It's Wu-Fei; do you REALLY want to tell him otherwise?)

So the REAL name of his first Gundam is Shenlong, and when it was recreated, Altron. However, Wu-Fei calls it Nataku as a nickname (Just like Heero refers to Wing Zero as simply "Zero", and Duo calls Deathscythe & Deathscythe Hell, "Ol' Buddy" not.)
As to why it's called Nataku in Endless Waltz and in the EW models, just marketing or sanity purposes. All the Gundams are given new names to differenciate them from the show's Gundams - it's an alternate universe / continuation of the show using different Gundams... kinda like how we're supposed to believe that it's always the same Bond, even though it's different people playing him. Zero became Wing Zero Custom, D-Hell became D-Hell Custom, Sandrock and Heavyarms, Sandrock Kai and Heavyarms Kai, and Altron? Nataku... simple as that.
