Macross Plus DVD Box Set oddity

Post by Waldo » Mon Aug 15, 2005 8:51 pm

I just picked up the DVD box set of Macross Plus and a few things struck me as odd so I wanted to check and see if anyone else has had the same problems. When I opened the case for Volume 1 it contained a disc labelled "Macross Plus: Movie Edition", though when I played the disc it seems to be Volume 1 of the OVA. The case for volume 2 contains what looks to be the correct disc but the audio sounds off as if it's one of the first pressings of Volume 2 that was recalled due to the missing center channel of the 5.1 mix.

Hah! :P Welcome to the world of Manga DVD pressings. Where quality control is an luxury, not a requirement. The Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Special Edition pressings were much the same way.

Manga Ent. did a swell job on Wings Of Honneamise. There was so much controversy and screen shots to back it up I never bought the DVD. I have it on VHS and apparently the VHS version is better than the DVD!
I feel bad for Bandai hooking up with Manga Ent. on Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex. I feel worse about the half year it took me to get a replacement copy for volume two!

Did Manga Ent. include the "Don't Use Drugs!" extra featuring 70's rockers KISS on the new box set? I couldn't do anything but laugh when I saw it on the first DVD release of Macross Plus.
