Who/What/How/When/Why do you think did the Anime start???

Post by gypsy » Wed Oct 30, 2002 2:04 pm

Right.

Here we R. :D A new week. So a new post is needed. Check this out. As the topic asks. I want everybody's (or all that reads this forum 8) ) OWN opinion.

If I got it right Golden Boy was the first official anime and was made by the Godfather of Anime... =scratches head= :)

=Thinking hard = :?
=Thinking harder = :x
= SHIT = Cant remember his name !!! I'm sure someone will point this out so guess I'll "remember late" via someone else.

I'm looking for personal insets. Why do you think anime was drawn in the first place. Boredom, innovation, contemplation, standarisation (et, ect, ect, ) TELL ME MORE.

Also I'd like to know why YOU watch anime. Do find it as amazing that there is always one dude in anime who has at least 3 girls runnung after hime? Is it the fighting scenes, story line, funnyness, or even... (dare I say it  )
Hentai

What is it that keep you glued to anime more than conventional movies or other forms of entertainment?

C'mon people. Lay out your hearts infrom of the world. Make the convession that you''ve been keeping inside for so long. That you have always been to shy to mention. The moment is now. Don't be afraid. The fact is we are all on the same level of insanity (or at least 15 percent of users on this site is) So we can communicate with each other and build the community stronger. :D

Note. IF your wondering where I got my degree of insanity dont ask me. I guess I was born with it.

= Mental note. :!: Must sound less insane in public places. 8)

Cheers vir eers.

"Official" anime? What, there's some committe out there testing animation and pinning a medal to it, certifying it as "anime approved"?

I always thought anime was a techincal label. Silly me.

Are you thinking of Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy? (Tetsuwan Atomu) It may be Japan's first TV animation (1963), but there were movies before it, such as Hakuja Den. (The White Snake Enchantress, 1958)

1960's and 70's are my first memories

Post by axron27 » Wed Oct 30, 2002 9:53 pm

Astro Boy, Tobor the 8 Man -robot backwards-, Prince Planet all 1960's and later Star Blazers -Space Cruiser Yamato- 1970's. The early ones in my opinion were geared more for children but Star Blazers I think started the transition to more adult anime yet even SB seems childish compared to the likes of Evanglion and Gundam which resemble the works done in Heavy Metal magazine -by the makers of National Lampoon-.

My favorites and why they are

Post by axron27 » Wed Oct 30, 2002 10:18 pm

My favorites are the comedies, Saber Marionette and recently Slayers. Being a military historian, even though I like the drama and plots of Evanglion and Gundam Wing I can't get past those 'mechs'. From a technical standpoint such weapon systems are throwbacks and totally impractical and their resemblance to the childish transformers is more than I can swallow. When designing tanks, for instance, the first point that a weapons designer needs to understand is that no weapon no matter how well protected has an antidote. Because of this concealment is as important as armor. The mechs are very high profile vehicles and thus make very large targets that would draw a tremendous amount of firepower. The transformers are even more absurd because what would be the merit of a 22nd or 23rd century fighting machine turning into a 20th century firetruck? those factors are impossible to ignore. That's as bad as the Starships on Star Trek powering all of their main systems from one source -hmm lower my defenses for a bit more speed? very dumb- Sci-Fi writers are hopeless romantics who are usually detached from scientific and physical reality -light sabers? swords are already obsolete for warfare- The comedy anime doesn't have to make sense. Wile E. Coyote can get mutilated and be as good as new the next scene and Lime can be an android and a living breathing woman simultaneously because SMJ is supposed to be absurd. Star Blazers at least used scientific theories to back up the Argo's capabilities and the guns -except the wave motion device- were served by magazines not by the engines and the ship had armor as well as shields so the bloody thing wasn't defenseless if the shields failed. Thank for letting me vent lol.

Astro boy. Right :? = Bangs head against walll = Will remember that.

Yes. Anime did start before astro boy but it was Astro boy that made the biggest impact and really got people interested anime (In japan anyway) .
While were on the topic lets find out what the first screened anime was as well. This can then be related to has a Historical forum for all the creators to come who wants to know this kind of stuff.

At least I got 1 honest person in the crowd and a very good "convession". I wonder what people like Ermac would say ...

Personally I love Noir. The Music in it is better than any anime I've seen. The characters are well balanced and they reveal enough of themself ofer time as not to flood you with information. Storyline is very well concealed (I'm on ep 12 so please dont spoil it for me 8) ). Slayers the movie is also one of my all time comedie favourites. =The part where Naga summons the stone dragon with a HUGELY undersized body is hilarious.

C'mon people. Keep this one alive. Let's hear it. The truth shall set you free ... (There I go again  )

Be waiting to hear from all the creators.

Golden Boy....first anime...... -_-....

Ladies an gentlemen, the spinning noise you hear is coming from Osamu Tezuka's grave and Mushi Productions.....

If you would like me to create an entire history of anime I will post it. But it will take me a while to write it all so only if you really want it.

An might I add, there was NO serialized Japanese animation before Tetsuwan Atomu. It was the first.

Axron-Yes my point all along Yay!! To disable a mech all you would have to do would be to shoot it in the joints. As for the transformers if I remember the cartoon correctly they weren't built to look like 20th century vehicles thier ship made them that way to disguise them when it awoke in the 20th century. Actually the best mech explanation I saw was in Battletech. They invented fake synthetic muscles and some kind of armor which made them invincible to small weapons like tank guns. But still can't justify there existence.

Gypsy-Slayers the movie is what got me into anime. Because before I saw that I didn't like anime.
