Don't forget - Studio Ghibli all January on TCM
There was a post about it on animenewsnetwork.com, but just in case some of you missed it, Turner Classic Movies will be playing Studio Ghibli films all January in celebration of Hayao Miyazaki's 65th birthday. Starting at 8pm and replaying after the second *or third* movie ends, here's the schedule.
The first play of the movies will be dubbed, with the second in subtitles, a little bird told me.
Jan 5:
- Spirited Away
- Princess Mononoke
Jan 12:
- Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
- Laputa: Castle in the Sky
Jan 19:
- My Neighbor Totoro
- Porco Rosso
- Whisper of the Heart
Jan 26:
- Only Yesterday
- Pom Poko
Revel in the Miyazaki gold!

Grave of the Fireflies, absolutely. I was surprised that wasn't on the Ghibliathon. I'm sure they didn't put it on cause they'd have to come up with a whole new rating for it - "rated TV14 for violence and intense, brutal sobbing afterwards."
Maybe Akira? It's a classic in the anime genre at least, what with breaking anime more into the mainstream.

My thoughts were along those lines as well. I do remember the Sci-Fi channel was playing that like it was going out style.littlekohitsuji wrote:Maybe Akira? It's a classic in the anime genre at least, what with breaking anime more into the mainstream.

IIRC, Only Yesterday will only be shown with subtitled japanese audio only. So the two airings will be exactly the same.littlekohitsuji wrote:The first play of the movies will be dubbed, with the second in subtitles, a little bird told me.

- Only Yesterday*

I can't wait for Totoro in JP with subs, I haven't seen it in sooooo long. Plus, Whisper of the Heart and Only Yesterday are the only other Ghibli films that aren't yet available on DVD in the US yet. My TiVo and I are so happy.
