Paying has never been a requirement to download videos. Nor should it be made to seem so.

Aol has its own media player? Yech. Try checking the settings on your aol browser - there should be an option that asks if you want to play online video content in your browser (or something actually about the media player). If you uncheck that option, your browser shouldn't try to play the videos for you. You can also find a video file already on your computer and right-click it - you'll get an option to change the 'open with' program - make it anything but that aol player.

Or...you can just get a different web browser to use when you download videos. Opera or firefox (mozilla) are free, and you only need to use them when you want to download a local file without your normal aol browser giving you problems. Opera - www.opera.com
