METROPOLIS Good Movie *Spoilers* I guess....

Post by amvwizard » Mon May 01, 2006 9:41 am

Ok I rented Metropolis last night and It was pretty good. One thing I didn't like was the way the characters were drawn. They looked really cartoony. If you've seen it you know what I mean. But the background and the city ws beautiful. I guess the thing with the characters is just the artists particular style. Anyway I highly recommend this movie. :)

Yeah. Even though it has receved both god and bad critique i personaly love it. And I specialy love the character design. It is supposed to be extremly stylized, and as people love different styles it cant be loved by everyone. A matter of taste. I do agree its abit cheesy and alittle slow from time to time it is still one of my favorites. The *I cant stop looooving youuu! Ive made up my mind!* scene literaly blew me away-

Btw, It is a cartoon so a cartoony look is most fitting ^^

If you can hunt down the manga, the character designs are actually pretty accurate to Osamu Tezuka's original drawing style (and, as for looking cartoony...well..in all fairness, Tezuka's first original inspiration was Walt Disney, so...)

Yeah, the movie is based off the manga that was made over 50 years ago, but it does make the character style stand out from everyone else's.

Metropolis is a great movie, when it comes down to themes of power, corruption, anarchy, and xenophobia. The character designs are great as wel, Osamu tesuka's old school style with the 3d backgrounds was marvelous. At the time it was made, Metropolis was the most expensive anime ever created, topping at 15 mill I think. I wonder if its been broken yet.

DAMN! well, it was worth every penny, and it did a much better job at the whole "Robot Revolution" bit than I Robot.

Alright, i did some half assed looking around and found a couple answers, from what i know,

Metropolis was $15mil, like you stated.
Mononoke was just under $20mil.
while Steamboy is apparently the most expensive movie ever, at $20mil.
with this movie im not surprised, the background scenes were like cake for your eyes.
