Any good anime recommendations?
I live in a small backwoods mountain town where if you say the word "anime," people just look at you cross-eyed. In short, I haven't had much access to a lot of good animes. I have a decent collection, but it's mostly bigger anime movie titles from the likes of Satoshi Kon and Hayao Miyazaki. I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations to help me get caught up with a lot of great titles? I'd really appreciate it.
I'm very big on steampunk anime, if that helps. And here are some animes I'm thinking of investing in, to narrow the field down:
Last Exile
Chrono Crusade
Full Metal Alchemist
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

You can't really go wrong with any of the Miyazaki stuff.
All of the titles that you've listed are actually pretty good. Vampire Hunter D doesn't really fit in with them, plus it's a movie not a series. VHD is still watchable, though.
You may also want to look into full metal panic, any of the three series are excellent choices.

Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for a night. Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

steampunk eh?
how 'bout these:
Sakura Wars (tv)
Steam Detectives
Steamboy (movie)
*I haven't seen any of these except the last one...but I base these recomendations on seing the trailers
in a little different direction now (cyberpunk):
Ghost in the Shell (both movies and both seasons of the anime)
I would definately suggest getting Last Exile (not so much steam though...main theme is aviation) and FMA.
I wasn't really satisfied with chrono crusade though

Ooh, definitely watch Last Exile. And I liked Chrono and FMA too. If you don't mind depressing stuff you should check out X TV too.
Ranch dressing.
I challenge you to sit there and really examine the taste of it with your tongue and tell me what it's made out of, without looking at the bottle.
It doesn't taste like what it's made out of, does it?

Check out Kishin Corps, also known as Geo-Armor. I haven't watched my LaserDisc copies in ages...
And for something new, I liked the first episode of Project Blue Earth SOS. Very SkyCaptain-ish.

I own Steamboy, and it's one of my big favorites. I've also seen both GOTS movies, but never got into the series. As for the others, I haven't seen them.steampunk eh?
