Best Action Contest Winner at Nekocon 9
Hey everybody, this is the second video Ive uploaded onto the site, had to go back to the drawing board after "The Wreckoning". The lackluster reviews, while very informative, left me a little depressed about my AMV skills so thats why Ive been on this little hiatus from the org (with that, college, and 2 jobs, I find it hard to put time into amvs as of late).
I entered this video into the the Nekocon 9 Anime Music Video contest for action, and was extremely shocked when one of my old high school friends told me that I won frist place. In all honesty, I thought my video did so poorly I walked out of the viewing without even voting for it! There was stiff competition (Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu Mr. and Mrs. Smith trailer gave me a run for my money for sure) but I managed to take home the number one spot. The win gave me the boost in confidence I needed to start sharing amvs again.
Its called "Naruto - Rock Fist"

Hope you enjoy it and please leave some creative comments so I can improve future amvs.

As a pseudo-Boondocks fan and a Bleach fan, I loved your bump. Very funny.
In terms of your video, a good chunk of it is relatively mediocre. The training scenes go on for too long and a lot of the action sequences are overused.
However, some parts were quite brilliant. The sync at certain points was rather impressive and the use of Neji inside Gaara's sand was very cool.
So some really good, some rather mediocre. Keep it up, though!

Couldn't agree more with pat_hulse. How could someone capable of making the coolest effect I've seen this year not be able to surround it with a better supporting cast?
Not even better. In this case, there just is no supporting cast. The training scenes are just so empty : I'm totally for intelligent use of effects but there's no need for a barren wasteland either.
Quite honestly, being the Lee fanboy that I am, with that effect, you could have had the blind nigga samurai running instead of the training, I still would have liked the vid
On a side note, would you want to trade opinions on our Lee videos?

I normally never reply to video's like this. But I felt like I had to drop my 2 cents on this one right here for some reason. First off congratz on winning at a con. Sadly I cant say I know what it feels like, but thats besides the point here. You did a void video at first. With void beeing said I mean a video that nobody will pay attention too. Then I saw Neji (I take it from the other posts that that is the guys name.) and I was pleasantly supriced. FX wize it doesn't stand out at all, but I liked the idea behind it. And me liking something that is related to Naruto is rare... Anyway that in combination with simple none flashy editing. It made this video very watchable and easy to enjoy. I wasn't going to burst into a rant here. But please next time also compress your audio. As right now it is uncompressed at 1536 kbps and could easily be 192 kbps.
Now people cant bitch me anymore for always bitching on Naruto video's. I'll just show them this topic and its all good again.
Next time no more commercial video and audio sources though...

Thanks for the responses
Id like to thank everyone that took the time to respond and I appreciate the comments very much. The training scenes seem to garner the most criticism other than the ending and after watching it several times, I completely agree. I intended to change them (they were last minute ad-ons from a suggestion by my brother) but this was the version I entered into the con so I kept it.
I don't plan on remaking it anytime soon, or creating any new naruto amvs for that matter (at least for a while). I'm kinda tired of watching the same scenes in every video.
As far as the special effects go, it took me forever to figure out how to make Premiere do that masking of Neji in the sand. The first time I tried it, I exported every frame out into photoshop and did it frame by frame but this took about 2 days for 7 seconds of video so I played with premiere until I got it right.
My vids don't feature many effects, not because I like simple amvs, rather I dont know how to do the complicated filters and cropping effects seen in many popular amvs. As much as I hate to admit it, I'm still a noob when it comes to amv making. But practice makes perfect and I intend on uploading a new amv with some special effects and transitions in the near future.
On the topic of audio compression, I forgot all about it and I will compress my audio from now on. Thanks for the heads up Niotex.
On a sillier side note, people seem to like my intro over my actual amv, is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Portraying Neji as the figure of Gaara's sand is what made this amv worth watching and lift if from the masses of similiar Naruto videos. Sometimes you just need one simple, yet brilliant trick to make a video click and this worked for me, even though I hate the usual Naruto massvideo concept.
Maybe the song could have been shortened and the effect used for the Neji sand could have been emphasized even more, but that's just me being a perfectionist.

I knew I was on to something when I showed some of my friends the "Neji Sand Effect" and they freaked, but they aren't amv makers so they freak out over anything I show them. The opinions of most of my friends are kinda like youtube comments, (they don't mean much of anything), so I'm surprised that so many people on the org enjoyed it as well.
I actually wished the song was longer so I could fit more of the fight into the vid, but I probably should have just cut down the training sequences instead. I tend to get lazy by the end of my vids and it shows. I usually dive head first into an amv but lose interest over time causing me to just end them instead of finishing them up. I intend to plan future vids out more thoroughly before hand and spend more time working on them.
Hey Ershan, isn't that Major Montana Max from the Hellsing manga in your avatar? I love the way he is portrayed in Hellsing. My favorite quote of his is from page 191 of volume 4 when everyone is chanting "Krieg! Krieg!" and he replies, "Very vell, then let it be Krieg." I plan on doing an amv with some pictures of him and others from the manga in it, sooner or later. I'll probably use that quote as the title for it too. I've only read up to volume 5 though, I gotta get the rest.
