Problem with fake AVIs
So, I read the guide "Preparing DVD Footage for Windows Movie Maker 2" and everything seemed to be going well. I managed to make a fake .avi file and all.. But when I try to import it, it says that I don't have a proper codec installed on my comp.. People seem to be having this problem but this case is a bit different cause I'm not using Divx or Xvid footage. So please, help?

Did you try using the other option of "Store script file name in output file"/"Store script in output file" (whichever one you're not using now)?
Stupid question: Do you have AVISynth installed properly?
If none of that works, here's how to do it with DGVFAPI instead of makeAVIs:

... and thank you for reminding me again that I need to eventually rewrite that section to use DGVFAPI instead of makeAVIs.

Yes, I tried with both options but with no success.
I downloaded the latest version of AviSynth and installed it, just to make sure it's properly installed.. And the result was, when I try to open makeAVIS it gives me an error "Failed to initialize AviSynth".
So, I tried DGVFAPI and made a fake .avi and imported it into WMM, just to test it out. And it worked!... BUT, the footage was interlaced so I added a line to the AviSynth script to remove interlacing. And when I tried to drag it to VFAPI, it did nothing. So I tried again without the line I added and it did nothing, AGAIN ... So, I tried to make another .d2v file and a new AviSynth script but with no result.
What's wrong this time?

Yes, the AviSynth script worked fine on my media player and VirtualDubMod. The problem shouldn't be it. I just can't get my AviSynth scripts dragged into DGVFAPI.. Well, it worked once but then it stopped working ..I can convert .d2v files with DGVFAPI though, directly, without AviSynth. But I really need to remove interlacing.. So..Scintilla wrote:Did the AVISynth script work (just straight, I mean, without VFAPI) in your favorite media player or, say, VirtualDub(/Mod), when you added the line to remove the combing?
And I've never actually used DGVFAPI myself, so I can't give advice on using it.
I also tried to reinstall DGVFAPI but no result.. This video quality issue is driving me crazy. Previously I've used medium quality footage (Easy to rip with Magic DVD-Ripper, easy to edit in WMM) but people kept whining about the quality so I had to do something about it.
At first I tried making clips and I managed to do that. But they just took too much space and editing those in WMM was wayyy too slow.. And I can't get this fake .avi thing to work either.. Add there some annoying problems with DVD Decrypter and interlace removal. The whole thing is getting ridiculous.. Do I have any more options left?
And YES, I've read the damn tech guides!

Well Scintilla I use that before but it didn't work. So I guess did you try this to decoded your video format? -----> Free DVD Video Software there's some codec there too! Just read the details inside.Scintilla wrote:Did the AVISynth script work (just straight, I mean, without VFAPI) in your favorite media player or, say, VirtualDub(/Mod), when you added the line to remove the combing?

Hope it help you if not just PM me to help you more in your problem ^_^
