Just wondering if anyone has seen the new anime from Geneon. Here is a summery of the series:

Ergo Proxy takes place in the domed city of Romdo, the last paradise on the planet. Re-l Mayer, (or Real in the Japanese version) is an inspector at the Intelligence Bereau. She, along with entourage Iggy are assigned to take care of rogue/murderous robots or AutoReivs that are infected with the cogito virus.

During one particular case, Re-l encounters a monster called a Proxy and then things are never quite the same in city. A variety of interesting characters are introduced later on such as Vincent Law, an immigrant from the city of Mosque. Pino, an infected AutoReiv, Raul Creed, chief of the Citizen Security Bereau, and Daedalus Yumeno, the Director of the Division of Health and Welfare.

The story line gets fairly complex, but none the less an amazing series. You can check out the opening at youtube.com, (I'd add the link, but for some reason it won't let me do it

If that doesn't get you into this anime, then I don't know what to tell you. I know that it sure got me interested.

I think this is a fantastic series, yet it's not for everyone. When I first started it I thought it'd be a more typical post-apocolyptic monster series, but I quickly discovered that it consisted of layers upon layers of ideas that are not easily summed up.

One of my favourite aspects of it is the care taken in the names. Almost each and every name has historical ties that reflect on the personality of the individual: Daedalus, Romdeau, Husserl, Turring, Amrita, Centzon... the list goes on.

I love the characters - Vincent and Pino especially. Their development is really enjoyable to watch, and is what keeps me watching the show over and over again.

The series begs for futher discussion once it's been completed since the last few episodes are so abstract. I can see how some people may feel that it panders a bit too much to the quasi-insightful cyber-punk crowd, but it truly is an amazingly planned out, innovative series.

And it looks great too.

Oh man. I remember the translation notes in the fansubs. Those were impressive.

Sadly, the DVDs seem to lack this sort of detailing.

Hmm I've only seen the first episode on dvd and the rest were fansubs so thats interesting about the fansub translations.

There was one thing that I really didn't understand was why the second Monad looked like Re-l. I was hoping that someone could help explain it to me cause I was just lost

The story gets hard to follow after like episode 19 or 20. I hope that the ending wasn't as confusing for you guys like it was for me lol.

But overall it was an amazing series with beautiful art. The segments where Vincent throws out his arms and when they show the kneeling, infected AutoReivs gives me shivers everytime.

@Reikah- Yea Pino and Vincent are so cute together. I love the part when it shows the two of them trying to walk on the tin cans.^^

I am bringing up this discussion thread back, because I definitely love this series after just watching the 1st volume on dvd. It has an amazing sci-fi story. and I love the animation, its different from all the rest and it has that darkness to it that reall intrigues me. And the storyline is a bit confusing, but well I still got the grasp of what was going on in the 4 episodes I watched.

I highly recommend this series to anyone that enjoy's sci-fi, although sci-fi isn't my type, but well this series is really good and I enjoyed watching it. it kept me intrigued in watching the episodes wanting to see more and more. So hopefully I will get the 2nd volume soon once I get paid.

There was one thing that I really didn't understand was why the second Monad looked like Re-l. I was hoping that someone could help explain it to me cause I was just lost The story gets hard to follow after like episode 19 or 20. The second monad was a clone made By Daedalus, he wanted to create a God that looked like Re-I and at the same time it could have all the powers of a Proxy.

The ending was a little confusing but all the lose tieds are solved. Proxy One was really a clone made by Ergo Proxy to replace him and he forgot about that, he unlike the others Proxy hated the humans because he thought that they eventually will destroy all his kind. All the 300 Proxys were created for this, each one ruled a dome where they could created more humans as gods never to be seen.

The only thing thats was left unresolves was the 'creator' that aparentlky lives in a Satellite, he was mentioned a lot of times as the father and enemies of the poroxys but they never who his face. Of course i could be wrong.

He lives in a Satellite? Well that's an amusing thought hehe. Glad to read your post though, it cleared some things up

Anyhow, this anime is really gorgeous (when the art is well drawn that is. Not when they're lazy with it). Just so beautiful!

I loved Pino and Real ^^ And for silly reasons I am uber happy Vincent ended the series looking, not like a wimp, but like the cool dude we all know he is

(I however hate his outfit... Looks like a big diaper)

But the ending just screams sequel to me. I want an OVA. Or something. Final conclusion in a manga or whatever.

Or was everything crystal clear and I just missed something? (wouldn't be surprised)

Great series though!

The one thing about this series that surprised me a little was how, say for an example, you are first introduced to Re-l in the first episode. I assumed that she was going to be just another one of those kick-ass-and-take-names chick, (which she is^^) that was somewhat honorable in some perspectives, but it was interesting to discover later on the Re-l could actually be very rude and stuck up most of the time. There were some moments where she came across as a big pain in the ass. I just thought that it was somethin different, I dunno what other people thought, but thats just what I was able to make out for Re-l's character.

I was definitely surprised to find out that (spoiler?) Re-l wasn't even the "real" main character at first.

Vincent isn't excatly your typical main character of a serie.

Anyway, I loved the whole thing. It was amazingly detailed through and through. And I loved how the anime constantly refered to mythology, poetry etc etc.

Definitely one of the best Animes I've seen so far, and I started out watching it because I was bored and had nothing to do. With no real expectations to the ANime.
