I just downloaded the trial version to check it out and when I tried importing an avi file it said "unsupported compression in file". Whats that? Is there any way to import it?

yes just use avisynth when u get it use note pade and type this in

avisource("file.avi")
killaudio()
LanczosResize(720,480)

unfortunately premiere pro doesn't have native support for avisynth. (as of version 2.0)

you're going to have to transcode your footage.
list of editable codecs
how to use vdub(/mod)

once you read those you should know everything needed to transcode (re-encode) your footage to something that'l work in premiere

Premiere never has <I>native</i> support for AVISynth, you have to install the plugin first.

why dont u just download amv 2.1 thingy then it would work
