Self-Destruct?

Post by OmniStrata » Tue Mar 13, 2007 1:36 am

Yeah, my patience is already past its limit. [which happens quite often due to things like this, I've been on the edge of quitting altogether]

I MUST get this Girls Bravo amv done but my stupid premiere 6.5 AND pro 2.0[not my beloved computer, which I tortured via stability checks through Prime95] obviously won't let me.

Is it actually possible to 'overedit' to a degree where the program simply falls through? I'm only trying to use virtual clips inside themselves and am not going anywhere NEAR the complexity I did with my Together amv and yet both versions of Premiere insist on running out of system memory and crashing...

What gives?
I've been pondering redoing this project from scratch. Something I've NEVER done or ever wanted to do before in an amv. [importing from 6.5 to Pro 2.0 seems to have compounded my frustrations]

So what would my 'fans' suggest? [people who want to help who don't hate me or my padded ego... lol  ]

Shall I just scrap my project file? [sob] and restart with a simpler objective in mind? [less cuts, less edits to 'save' the comp from fucking itself]

Or just toil at searching and asking questions in order to get what I've got now finished in its 'true' form and not dumbed down so my stupid prog can 'take it'...?

There's also option 3, just quit making amvs altogether and simply ask people to edit for me... [yeah, like anyone would love to edit at my request lol]

I save multiple projects along the way as I edit. A video I spent 8 hours on had 50+ saved project files saved. You can never be TOO safe. Thou I've never ran into your issue before.

are you using avisynth? If so, then add advanced filters later like smoothing sharpening, level adjustments, etc.. keep only frame changes and deinterlacing in your script if you have them in it. Add the advanced filters later when you are ready to encode, but from the sound of it, maybe it wont even do that. :uhoh:

Actually I don't know what you're saying. What are "Virtual Clips"?

One thing you could do is hold "ctrl+alt+delete" check all your processes and see if anything besides premiere is eating up your memory and CPU usage.

You might have a lot of junk that you could delete(check what each process is on google) and shut down programs like your browser and anything else that could be eating a lot of memory. Hope that helps.

I've gotten so complex on Premiere 6.5 that the damned thing would die on me every 10 minutes. After playing around awhile I figured out the problem was loading AVS scripts in Premiere was killing the memory so if I added too many complex things it just died. I used vdub to export to huffy and replaced the script with the huffy in the project. Smooth sailing from then on. Although it did take a fuckload of HD space to store a half hour episode in huffy format until that video was done.

Try using <b>SetMemoryMax()</b> to reduce the amount of memory you allow each script to use. Also comment out any preprocessing filters that aren't essential (you naturally want to leave in things like IVTC, resizing...).

Oh, I forgot to mention resizing.. yeah, that's another to keep in. I actually never use setmemorymax and still haven't ran into a problem. I have dual processors and junk.. maybe thats why. Though I never really had a problem even when I tried editing scripts on my slow ass laptop. 8-)

Hmm, I guess I should make it low...

thanks for the input! ^_^
