AX2007 aftermath - The curse of Long Beach returns
It wouldn't be an AX AMV competition without a hiccup of some kind.
Okay. First, the good news: James had everything ready to go this year, and well ahead of time! Yay!
The bad news: The contest DVDs (except for AMTV) went missing, presumed stolen, plus the schedule was fubared anyway due to major overtime by the concert prior. Boo!
The crowd took it very well. James had announced that he was retiring from running the AMV competition and wanted to go out with a bang, but this wasn't what he had in mind. In any case, he went ahead and showed the AMTV videos, then solicited creators to bring up whatever videos they had on them. A medley of random AMVs from random years were shown, including Engel and ATW6:35 (which I found fitting, considering the similar circumstances of the year the video first played).
Remedy: James is running home to burn a few more contest DVDs. The event will be shown in LP1 at 10am on Sunday. Stay tuned for the outcome.
Edit: Correction, it'll be in the Terrace Theater, NOT LP1. My apologies for any confusion.

I know James is really feeling bad right about now and I know that it isn't fault and I don't blame him at all (stupid dirtbag theif), but I wonder how you could have all of the videos on a single dvd and not have a backup copy just in case... I would be so paranoid and made at least 5 copies.
And if I heard correctly, James said that the creators will do the voting, since now the audience votes are useless. Sad times indeed. It was a crappy end of a crappy day for me (3 hour wait for a picking up a badge holder!).

James actually was prepared in that sense, but he kinda goofed on that as well. He made one DVD for each category, then made two additional copies of each DVD for backup or in case one was fubar. The thing is he kept all 12 discs in the same place.johnny3d wrote:I know James is really feeling bad right about now and I know that it isn't fault and I don't blame him at all (stupid dirtbag theif), but I wonder how you could have all of the videos on a single dvd and not have a backup copy just in case... This is so fitting of AX... Yeap... Not only do the dics get stolen, but the contest is delayed and now gets played in a smaller place at a bad time... Sure souns like 2002 all over again...
It's not all James's fault, but still, as coordinator of the contest ya gatta take the lumps (I would have to too if it was me...) I personally would of had a copy of the discs on my at all times considering there is what, 5K+ people that go to the contest!
Yep, good thing I don't enter AX anymore

I'm probably the most cynical contestant so I must say it: By Sunday, most people won't be caring anymore. ESPECIALLY at 10AM in the morning. Dumbing down the voting system doesn't sound appealing either.
I'll still go just because, yet I still think those who entered deserves some kind of compensation.

My friends and I were laughing. AX never fails to disapoint. We were making bets outside with people. The contest NEVER goes smoothly, and once again there was major issues. It occured to me that a reason they keep trying to get AMVs removed from AX could simply be financial. They have to rent out the theater now to host the showing of the contest. I'm glad their doing that, but that makes the contest more expensive.
