Post by silentway » Sun Jul 01, 2007 12:14 pm

i am a college video maker. currentyly i just use vegas 7.0.
vegas is very flexible and good until i try to break the barrier and found that it is lomited in someway.

i wanted to change to adobe, but, i was wondering which one is better.
i've been looking around at the forum, and cant really find the pro and cons between those 2 and which one is beter.

Ok first AE isn't a programm for video cutting. It is for effects which you take in after you made your video... (@other that is right or?)

Premiere is a good programm, but i dont know if it is better than vegas, many people say they were equal...

To begin with, I don't see a reason to Switch from Vegas since it offers a little from Premiere and After Effects.

But that aside, The only major difference between the programs is what they are used for. Premiere is designed for video editing. It also includes some similar features that are found in After Effects like some animation. The drawback is that you don't have as much control over the properties.

After Effects is like Premiere's best buddy. With the integration Adobe builds into their products (Especially the new CS series) you can easily bring projects in and add a little flair using AE and then send it back to Premiere. But that's the gist of what AE is for, complimenting Premiere. Unless you want to do animations for something like Encore DVD or just effects to apply to later projects like bumpers and text effects (which AE seems to be pushing since it ships with 100s of text effects).

So in short, your better bet is Premiere. :P

If you're using Vegas 7.0, there's no reason at all to switch over to Premiere. The differences between them aren't worth the several hundreds you'll spend to get Premiere, as they both offer many of the same features, effects, and so forth. Also, if you're used to Vegas the interface in Premiere is much different and you may have a hard time switching.

After Effects is a program that is used pretty much completely for effects. You use it to put effects on a video, then export that video and place it on the timeline of an NLE, like Vegas or Premiere. Granted, using AE with Vegas isn't nearly as streamlined as using it with Premiere, but it can be done and has been done many times.

Of course, AE is MUCH more expensive than Premiere, but if you buy Premiere I see it as a waste since you're already accustomed to Vegas.

.. maybe this will help explain After Effects best ...

I do Hand-Drawing for Animation. Sometimes I draw cut-sections ( like Lincoln-Park or the Blues-Clues Dog ) ... with after effects, I can place my animations into my AMV's and make them seem like they are Part Of The Original Series.

This feature, of adding what is previously not real in the series/AMV, is only part of AiST and Adobe Products. As such -- they are Designed to work well with those products.

After Effects is not NOT frame defendant like Editors. It can stretch the time line, ignore the picture-framing size of the AMV ( this makes watching AMV's in full-screen mode look clean and sharp regardless of the Monitor Size you are watching it on ) and even increase the frames per second of ITS work while leaving the original AMV at 23.94 frames per second. After Effects is truly NOT an Editor -- unless your an Animator. 8-)
