I just got a Capture Card....

Post by MaggIvy » Wed Aug 08, 2007 7:44 pm

And I'm having a lot of trouble...I was wondering if any of you can help me out please?

Its an MSI Theater 550 Pro and I'm having a pathetic amount of problems getting this thing to work on other programs...like Virtual Dub Mod for example.

The original software is ok, but it won't let me record PS2 or PS3 games at all...so I guess I can't use that, it also lags like crazy. I press a button and 5 seconds later something happens kind of lag. Probably due to lack of memory...I only have 1 gig.

Here's a screeny of what happens when I use other programs then PowerCinema4 (which came with the card, this software sucks balls by the way):

The problem with this is, NO programs are running at all when I try to do this, I even uninstalled the PowerCinema and still I get the same message and other programs won't allow me to use it. This is very frustrating.

Any ideas or better software to use for capturing? :!:

The input lag is an issue with all capture cards as far as I know. Works great for watching and recording, but sucks for playing games on.

It's been quite some time since I've done analog capturing, but I've had success with VirtualDub (not Mod, the newest versions), Virtual VCR (although it hasn't been updated in ages), and iuVCR (is updated but not free).

I'm sure there is some better piece of software out there, but I haven't used anything other than what I've listed. Not sure about the error message though :?.

Thanks for your help. I decided to give Virtual VCR a try and surprisingly I was able to record and even play some games with ease...only problem is interlacing (which can be taken care of separately anyway) and audio synch, which might be fixable to...since you used them, do you have any suggestions?

That looks like an awesome program but it doesn't seem like my capture card is supported by it...

damn! that's sad :(. You may use the software that you have then :). I did bump into this thread though...

It seems some people keeps testing different models with this card and eventually hit upon partial working.

Hrm, I need something that fully works though lol.

As for Virtual VCR, I'm having huge problems with audio and video synch, apparently my capture cards audio couldn't be resampled...I may have to do the whole audio thing in premiere...does anyone have any ideas?

What I do, when I get a problem with an out of sync A/V is that I record both of them seperately and then mux them together using some program. This means that you may record the video from Virtual VCR and the audio from another program running alongside Virtual VCR.

That sounds interesting, what audio recording program do you recommend?
