help with installing an aspi layer

so basically i'm just now trying to figure out how to rip dvds so i downloaded amvapp but do i still need an aspi layer thing?(it was a while ago so i kinda forgot everything it included), i'm not sure if i have one or not but when i tried to download it, i can't for the life of me install it. i couldn't find it in the browse window so i serched for it, but the only thing i can get is a black box but it wont let me write in it because it disappears after i hit any key. If anyone can help me i'd really appreciate it ^_^ sorry if my explaination doesn't make much sence...

.. is your computer P4 or older ? then don't bother with it.

ASPI DMI and other settings are fully automatic properties understood by WinME, WinXP 2nd ( the 2003 ) Edition and Vista.

if you are using Win98 Win98SE or Win2K then this package is needed to identify some older DVD IDE Drives.

.. if your computer P4 or older then it should load for you.
