kero.animemusicvideos.org not working

Post by whiic » Tue Nov 13, 2007 9:56 am

I have requested upload permit and got it. I have tried logging to it with three client programs and two different web connections but kero doesn't reply to connection attempts. ICMP echo request (better know as "ping") doesn't work either.

Trying to open it via HTTP brings up http://kero.animemusicvideos.org/apache2-default/ so apparently there's some half-made changes to software and everything is not working properly yet.

Is fixing it already under progress or am I the only one with problems?

First off, Kero isn't a webserver, so don't be surprised when HTTP doesn't show you anything useful.

Second, neither derobert nor myself is having any difficulty pinging or connecting to Kero.

Thus, I suspect that either you have a routing issue or it's something on your end.

"change the http into ftp.... and you have to use an internet explorer

I used FTP with Secure Shell File Transfer Client, and also with SmartFTP. Trying HTTP was only something I tried AFTER I noticed pinging doesn't work. It's weird that HTTP does but ICMP doesn't... nor does FTP.

Since you say you have no trouble pinging kero and I definitely only have time-outs, it may be complete waste of time to read the guide but I'll read it anyway. It you can ping kero and I can't, it's also a "Bad Thing"(TM) because that isn't probably fixable from .org's end and it has to be my ISP (both DSL and GRPS connections I have tried).

Apache/2.0.54 (Debian GNU/Linux) Server at kero.animemusicvideos.org Port 80

With IE and FTP, it time-outs, no reply from kero at all.

So apparently something responds to HTTP requests even though it's not intended as HTTP server. But nothing responds to FTP or ICMP (ping) calls when called from Elisa ISP (Finland). Always the result is connection time-out, no other errors.

This is very weird as while this GRPS connection has been quite buggy, that DSL connection is with pretty good connectivity, no ISP firewalls, no NAT, no blocked ports (except one that allows keeping your own mail server), etc. Yet even it cannot connect kero.

I investigated it further and asked my inet pals whether they can ping kero.

Sweden => OK
England => time-out
Finland, tnnet => OK
Finland, kymp.net => OK
Finland, Salon seudun puhelin => OK
Finland, Elisa DSL (mine) => time-out
Finland, Elisa Mobile (mine) => time-out

It's definitely getting strange. Very strange.

remember to disable any firewalls you may have, or if you can't disable yours remember to specify a proxy or try passive mode
(I personally use Filezilla, but the above should be options on most programs)

also make sure that you are using an ftp client program, trying to use an ftp server program won't work out so well

Can't disable ISP's possible firewall (if exists) without C4. I have tried passive mode with SmartFTP but the problem is exactly the same. And I'm pretty sure SSH File Transfer Client and SmartFTP are client and not server software.

I relayed the file through a friend who uploaded the video to kero via FTP using that one-time-only login/passwd. I try not to make it a habit because it's quite bothersome way of doing the upload.

That friend even managed to botch the upload and also created a video entry under his own account. (I had mine created days ago.)
This entry is that redundant one: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... p?v=152483
It can be removed.

____

I hope this situation is temporary as the fact that kero works for some makes it really difficult or impossible to troubleshoot and to correct.

What do their routes look like?

For what it's worth:
