How to enhance noise?

I have a quick question. What was used to enhance the noise as shown in Light/Invisible Noise? I would like to compare different denoisers.

not sure what zarx did, but I use limitedsharpenfaster(edgemode=-1) to show me the not-so-visible noise in a clip

I used levels in virtualdub.
