Work In Progress! Gankutsuou, The Fire Inside

Post by Weirdlet » Wed Mar 19, 2008 12:27 am

Hey, all- this is a work in progress, an AMV of various animes to Bob Seger’s song, The Fire Inside. I’m stuck on how to bring it together and end it, and I’m hoping some outside eyes will help spark new ideas, as well as catch any glaring mistakes I might have made and skimmed past.

I started out using mainly Gankutsuou, with a few touches of Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust here and there, and since then tiny bits of Hellsing and Howl’s Moving Castle have slipped in. I thought it made an interesting portrait of people looking for love in all the wrong places, kind of fighting against the tide to get something out of life. But at about 4:12, “it ends in dust and disarray, like wind on the plains-“, is where I get clogged on What Happens Next and from there on out it’s just footage I’ve placed in the timeline as placeholders after cutting out what I wanted from it for earlier. There are a couple moments there that I like, such as young!Franz laying his hand on young Albert’s shoulder starting at 4:20, and the fade, then yanking of the gate at “Burning you up”, starting approximately 4:38, but it’s otherwise filler and then blank.

Aside from any advice on continuing the theme to its logical conclusion, I’m also looking to see if it makes sense, if the visuals are attractive or confusing, if things are too off-kilter (or too in sync) with the lyrics. Do any bits linger too long or cut off too sharply? Does the narrative make sense or is it just too disconnected? Overly sappy?

(Also, slightly unrelated- the site I’m using to host this wip on seems to be That Which Must Not Be Named, and I cannot find the faq that will tell me why. So- why?)

If you don't mind I just skiped the text and watched the AMV. I have one suggestion on how to better your amv. Cut the song Oo Seriously 6 minutes are way too long

Yeah, I figured- I'll work on cutting it down with a good end.
