Normal in the Otaku world, but for the more ordinary people, this is probably worth a laugh D:

And in case the link's not working, here's the topic
Otaku have petitioned the government for the right to marry 2D characters.

The online petition in question:

“We’ve no interest in the 3D. If we could, we’d like to live in a 2D world. However, with current technology, this is not possible. So at the very least, can we have marriage to 2D characters legally recognised? If this were to come to pass, I intend to marry Asahina Mikuru.”

The most interesting comment we see in response is this:

“I’ve been married to Arcueid of Tsukihime for five years now. I’ve no doubt that I want to spend the rest of my life with her. As someone who lives in two dimensions, I’d very much like to support this measure!”

Via Gigazine.

Currently the measure has 530 supporters, with a million seemingly being the target for it to be presented to the diet, should they tear themselves away from trying to ban 2D characters for long enough to hear it.

so, what happens when 50 otakus all want to marry the same character, legal problems? unless they're gonna legalize poligamy as well.

4th time I've seen this in one day...

Anyway, let them do what they want, it's not like anything will change even if the petition gets passed

Normal? No. Amusing? Yes, very. Bizzare? Definitely. Will it get passed? Not likely.

Old news is old. *cough*2days*cough*
Still freaking awesome, though. Especially some comments:
I guess they’d all be angry at the fact that I’m posting nekkid picz of all their wives on 4chan…
This has got to be copyright infringement in some way or another…

Or all future copyright notices will say the following:

“You may not present, reproduce, or MARRY the following material without proper consent from the owner.”
Would it be incest if you marry your own character?
Be ready, prepare your own 2D marriage tag. o.ob

Oops, wrong recording. D:

"Hai!"

Father: I now pronounce that you are husband and loli. You may kiss your figurine!

I dare you challenge me.

I admit I've got it baaaaad for Genjyo Sanzo, but where's the benefit of legally binding yourself to someone you can't hold, or talk to, or well, anything?

(So sez someone who has sworn off relationships with real people because they're equally useless. >_>)
