A bit of looking back.

Post by Voices_Of_Ryan » Sun Dec 21, 2008 1:02 am

So I don't really ever visit much anymore (even though I really do want to edit) and untill tonite I had'nt watched one of my videos in quite a while. Though after for some reason getting an itch to rewatch most of my videos I've come accross something that I think mite be pretty normal (and thus the topic).

I was looking at scores and opinions from a while ago (my last video was '05) and looking back I see that some of my lowest scoring videos (or least liked?) are some of my favorites.

Now, I feel like this is pretty normal for older editors [especially] and I was just wondering if you have a video that alot of people didn't really like or maybe was really looked as a step back for you... but you just really still like it reguardless (or it maybe your favorite).

P.s: For the sake of my not really wanting to "pimp" my stuff i'm not going to name mine.

Well... I guess for a good percentage of the videos that haven't been well received in the past, I can understand now why they haven't. It still hasn't made me stop liking them, but yeah, I do know now and have learnt from the past of why they're not as successful as some of my other video.

That said, one of my other videos seem to garner fairly poor attention, and yet stays fairly high up in the star rankings and definitely in my favourites book. Sometimes, this really goes to show the pulling power of using a popular anime versus one which is a bit more niche albeit more impactful if given a second glance. Maybe this is not quite a video that others say was a "step back" for me, but it certainly is one which I like despite potential viewer's unplanned prejudice to its source.

my favorite video of mine... hmmn... compared to the popular ones?
I donno aside from one, I actually like my popular videos...

the ones i see not getting many downloads, I understand why they don't get downloads...

my favorite video of mine isn't even anime so it doesn't get many downloads anyways... however con reaction to it was priceless... maybe that's why I like it so much?

I kinda liked working on the Narue vid I did earlier this year. Most of the responses I got were of the marginally positive variety, but the stars show it as my worst-rated (full) vid. I can see where it's lacking, and It taught me that drama/romance are difficult when you're used to action/comedy. I'm not going to say it's my favorite, but It taught me a good deal about genres I had never really been interested in trying before, so it was certainly beneficial.

I wish some of my other videos would get more attention than this one from last year. Personally I really dig my newest video, but a lot of people say that it´s a step back. I definatly don´t think this way and see it as my best one up to date. Personal taste I guess. I´m glad to see people who enjoy it too.

All in all I like my older videos. They´re pretty cool and I´m often surprised that I came up with this and that idea/cut/effect in a video. :D

ITT: Popular editors want you watching their older, more obscure stuff, so they can get a higher average.

I know your tricks, Dewey.

I find that the more I emotionally invest in a video the less well it is received. Doesn't that just suck?
