Howdy
I've got my source laid out, and it's all handsome DV avi, looks excellent, and I'm golden as far as quality goes.
I chanced upon an interesting program that I'd like to try working with, however it only accepts flv and swf as input files. Would it be possible for me to convert my source to one of these two formats without losing too much quality, or...?
Thanks

Re: converting high quality source to flv/swf
.. flv ( fla & fli formats from AutoDesk .. 12 bit color at best ) ... possibly not
.. swf ( png and Motion Png .. 8 bit motion design .. still un-finished in design ) ..
if its in an AVI container then its probably only 16 bit color to start with soo, the loss
should be minimal
.. so .. like .. why are you using FLV and SWF with Video .. for .. again ??

Any additional conversion will incur generational loss. What program are you talking about in the first place? If this is for online distribution or a portable/standalone device, you're better off using MP4 with H.264 and AAC.
FLV files can be created with ffmpeg, though, or ostensibly anything that uses ffmpeg (such as mencoder), so long as the proper encoders+FLV output is enabled at compile time. Just be aware that FLV is a container, not a codec type, and can store several formats equally - nowadays I'd wager it's mostly H.264, but in earlier stages it was commonly one of the VP codecs, such as VP6F (which is also known as FLV4). The audio is usually MP3 or AAC.

I was looking into a program called FLxER, used for vj stuff, all flash based
http://www.flxer.net/software/
upon downloading it, it seems its not going to be workable, but it was a sort of late night crazy idea to begin with.
